Upgrading to MSSQL 2019 is allowed with MSSQL runtime license ?

Hi ,

This question is really tricky.

We're asked (by a customer) to provide system copy and MSSQL upgrade service for their BPC system.

We checked the PAM compatibility and also made sure they have valid SAP maintenance contract, everything is fine except that "they are not sure whether upgrade to MSSQL 2019 is allowed by SAP and need an official document as a proof".

The customer shared a paperwork which is a hard copy of email with subject like "Microsoft ISV Royalty Program....", they said that's from SAP sales long ago when the contract signed. In this "old" (2014) document, there is a list of MSSQL versions, the "latest" one is MSSQL 2016. Certainly SAP can't tell the "future" so 2019 & 2022 SQL not in the list for sure. Customer need a update version in which MSSQL 2019 & 2022 are there.

How can they get it !!!!

PS: the sales representative (local SAP partner) don't have any idea and ask customer to submit OSS.

Thanks

Hi Wei

1. Currently, MS SQL server licenses are core based, and also the latest version of MS SQL support almost all version of SAP products, refer to the SAP note 2807743.

2. Regarding the licenses you can check the Microsoft link about the Microsoft ISV Royalty program, and also the license cost varies depending on regions
