Tablespace shows AutoExtend off whereas Datafiles under shows AutoExtend of

Hi ,

We have ECC 6.0 system , in which If we exceute Transaction DB02 & click on Space Analysis

In right Pane , against some Tablespaces it shows Auto Extend offwhereas If I click on detail analysis

option for that Tablespaces , It shows me Data files under that have Autoextend on.

Which is very confusing , because Tablespace is a logical entity whereas Data file is the one which

gets extended & auto extend should be feature of Data File only.

Which is why MY client is asking why against some Tablespaces are showing Auto Extend on

& why some Tablespaces are showing Auto Extend off.

tablespaces are not autoextendable, only datafiles are autoextendable.

what is your support pack level?

Hi Deepak,

As you said ..you have noticed datafiles are with autoextend on

and tablespaces with autoextend off.Yes the datafiles will increase

in size till the space allocated for tablespace.Then you have to alter

the tablespace to Autoextend ON or increase the size.

If the datafiles reach the end of size allocated for tablespace.

I didnt find any point which is confusing here.

Regarding the question asked by your client

yah it might be because of the installation,during installation some

tablespaces might have been set to autoextend on n some to autoextend off

Depending on the usuage you can set Autoextend off or on.hope you got some

idea.
