Subreports disappear in Crystal 2020 when linking .mdb via OLE DB (ADO)

I thought I successfully migrated from Crystal 11 to Crystal 2020 using OLE DB ADO, as the prior method to connect MS Access (.mdb) is not available in 2020. When I go through the extra steps to re-link the crystal to the .mdb data file via OLE in set location, it works for main report and it seems to work for the first subreport, but then each subsequent link attempt deletes the subreport path in the set location and removes the entire sub report from the report. It looks like it's putting all the fields in each subreport into a single subreport. There must be another way or something that I am missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, potentially looking for a Crystal consultant.

Hi thaddeus, are you using the Crystal Reports designer / crw? If not can you provide the details for your dev environment.

If you are using the CR designer can you try this:

  1. Do a Save As for your original report.
  2. In that newly saved main report, right click on your subreport and choose Save Subreport As.
  3. In the newly saved report, delete the subreport.
  4. Now set the location for the main report to use OLE and save it.
  5. Open up the subreport that you saved as a separate report.
  6. Set the location for this report now and save it.
  7. Go back to the 'main' report and Insert > Subreport and place it in its former section.
  8. Relink the subreport.
