Starting Startup Agent sapstartsrv FAIL: Timeout issue

Former Member

Hi Gurus,

i searched at SCN for solution but no of them works for me.

I installed a new Diagnostics Agent for our J2EE. The J2EE works fine.

But the SMDA does not start. We tried to start without vhost name, with vhost name and with instance. But nothing works.

The log file gives no hints.

I checked the permissions for all logs in /tmp also work dir.

I checked ulimit and hosts. But all is fine.

Has someone a suggestion, anymore?

Hello Chris,

I might've seen this very same issue a few days ago...

1. Isn't there a sapstartsrv already running for instance 98? Please run "ps -ef | grep sapstartsrv | grep 98".

2. What is the permission for "/tmp/.sapstartsrv98_sapstartsrv.log"?

3. If there is no sapstartsrv running, try to start it with command "sapcontrol -nr 98 -function StartService <SID>"

4. What are the permissions for "sapstartsrv.log" from the work folder?

Cheers,
Ian Segóbio.

Hello again,

Ok there was no process running at first but what happened after you run the "StartService" command? Did it start?

If not, please delete the file "/tmp/.sapstartsrv98_sapstartsrv.log", temporarily change your shell from "Csh" to "Ksh" and then try to use the same command to start the service.

Cheers,

Ian.

Yes the  sapstartsrv is started then.

But sapstart get still the message "FAIL: Timeout issue".
