We are on SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SPS09 MSSQL, and planning to migrate it over over PERSON_NAME DB and upgrade the SPS to latest, and we would like to understand what benefits are offered running Solution Manager on PERSON_NAME vs mssql, in terms of functionality and performance.

Also, BW that comes with SAP Solution Manager will be BW on PERSON_NAME or BW/4HANA? and the objects of BW are optimized for PERSON_NAME DB? if not can it optimized after installation manually as mentioned in below help document?

Currently we are using solman for below functionality:
1. System Monitoring
2. PERSON_NAME
3. DVM
4. CCLM
5. Focused Insights

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting SAP Product Support, Please see the following as answer your questions.

From a functional perspective there are no differences: the SAP Solution Manager coding is not optimized for SAP HANA DB to benefit in regards of performance. We did this for Focused Run, but not for SAP Solution Manager.

While MS SQL is based on disk storage, SAP HANA uses in-memory technology. This essentially means that SAP HANA can load data into the server memory and process the data much faster than MS SQL. Hence, It really depends on the purpose of usage, MSSQL is good for you to store application data, HANA is more suitable for applications that need higher processing power.

-------------------------

SAP Solution Manager (BW) on HANA, not BW/4HANA, if after migrating to SAP HANA Database, it is advised to hana-optimized, If the model you are asking is InfoCube, this document is OK.

Best regards,

Leo
