SAP Crystal Reports 2020 SP02 Patch 900 - failed to save a report created in previous patch 5

I’ve installed the latest Crystal report and server to my win2016 D drive under "program Files(x86)":

SAP SERVER version:
SAP Crystal Server 2020 SP00 - ONE
patch version:
SAP Crystal Server 2020 SP02 Patch 1000 - ONE
SAP Report server version:
SAP Crystal Reports 2020 - ONE
Patch version:
SAP Crystal Reports 2020 SP02 Patch 900 – ONE

  • A Crystal report created in version 5 and worked up to version7 exited under folder D:\CrystalReport\AlertsByInterval.rpt

1. Start "SAP Crystal Reports 2020"

2. Open the attached “AlertsByInterval.rpt” file under the above folder
3. Set the Datasource location (From Database menu item) to pointing to a valid db2 DB
4. Print preview to retrieve the data from the above DB successfully (so far so good)
5. File > Save
Actual result:

Got warning of "this report was created in previous version of Crystal .. Yes to overwrite the report"

6. Click “Yes” to save overwrite, got another error/warn of file not found, the Save failed!

7. SaveAs did not have error, however, unable to reopen (I then checked the file size was 16KB, well short of the original size of 111KB)!!

Plz help!

So, was the original report created in Crystal 5? Or was it created in a different version of Crystal and you're trying to upgrade it to Crystal 2020?

This message is normal when an older report file is updated:

Got warning of "this report was created in previous version of Crystal .. Yes to overwrite the report"

Saving error is a permission issue, you don't have rights to save the file in a location you selected.

It could be the Report is open by another users so it's locked. Sometimes if something weird happens Windows will lock the file until a reboot is done...

Try Exporting the Report to RPT format to a different location and see if that works.

If it too fails check with your IT guys to see if you are saving it a location your have rights to.
