Hi PRPpayroll, this can sometimes happen when a user refreshes a report where they don't have connectivity to the underlying data source.

E.g. A report based on an ODBC is opened in Crystal Reports on a new computer and the end user goes to refresh it (or preview a report without saved data) and they will be prompted to select a data source from a list of existing ODBC connections.

To resolve the issue:

  1. Cancel out of that dialogue.
  2. Go to the Database menu in Crystal and then choose Set Datasource Location.
  3. Open up the Current Data Source and that should give you an idea on what the connection was based on.
  4. With that info, contact your database administrator to get the connection set up.

Note that some databases will require a client download and that needs to be found via your online help for that particular database. Also note that Crystal Reports can install some database drivers such as the Wire Protocol Drivers but that requires a custom installation vs. the default. The Set Datasource Location info from the steps above should provide you the pertinent info on how the connection was based.
