Dear Team,

Few days ago, we migrated all of our DEV systems to Azure. Currently we have these systems based in Oracle Linux 8, Oracle 19.16 and release 7.31 to our ECCs.

We are facing an issue when need to talk about Backup after migration, once our partner in this migration haven't defined properly tools for the characteristics of our environments. This is why I'm pinging you to request for help to understand what the best tool for Oracle backups in Azure.

They are (our partner) recommending us the use of 'Azure Backup' for this activity, but we believe that is not an appropriate tool to do it (because Azure Backup backup operation system, it's a kind of a snapshot and I don't know if this is supported by Oracle. Previously we used Netbackup with our old provider. I didn't find a Note that help me with this subject !

I'm contacted you to help us to clarify what the best toll or a clue about that to move forward with our backups, once we will have soon the migration to QAS and PRD

Can you please tell if the Azure backup is good for Oracle DB backup in Azure AND if you have other options to help us with this challenge.

Dear Customer,

You are correct, OS backup is not fully supported by Oracle/SAP.
The backup strategy is the same as "old" environment (before moving to azure), for example, use rman or brtools to back up to file system, tape, disk, etc.
So use the old/previous backup strategy would be fine, which is also familar to you.

If there is any concern or further feedback, please reply here, I will continue.

Best regards,
James
