MDG on S/4 HANA to integrate with ECC Systems

Hello All,

We are planning to implement MDG on S/4 HANA 1809 as a HUB system. We also have SAP CPI (Cloud Platform Integration) in our landscape for middleware usage. Now we are trying to analyze merits and demerits on following integration options:

Option 1: MDG on S/4 HANA integration using ALE IDocs to ERP systems.

Option 2: MDG on S/4 HANA integration using Services via SAP CPI to ERP sytems

We have to implement all MDG modules and also we have several custom fields in each master data object. Later in 4 to 5 years existing ERP systems will be Transformed into another S/4 HANA system.

We have recommendations from our Enterprise Architecture team to use SAP CPI as middleware. But we want to have direct integration using ALE -IDocs.

Hi,

if you plan to go for S/4 in future, use the BP web service. This might save some migration effort since you would already have BPs in your ECCs. Note the the receiving ECCs must have 6.0 EhP5 as minimal release, otherwise they won't be able to consume the BP web service.

Regarding the usage of point-to-point vs. (C)PI/PO in-between, you might run into issues w.r.t. replication status & confirmation (audit) messages. The latter one are important if you require key mapping and especially if you do NOT create the target system keys for new records in the sending MDG system. The confirmations / audit messages are used to update MDG's key mapping.

Hi Sekhar - We are replicating MDG to ECC systems without any middleware. You can use e-SOA for BP without middleware as well. Usually you may face issue from S/4 HANA-1809 system to Lower version of ECC system i.e 1610 or lower version then you may face time dependency issue other integration issues. I worked with SAP on this issue and SAP developed two notes to correct this error. I hope this helps

We are implementing MDG-Finance. We are trying to replicate Cost Center, Cost Center Hierarchy, Profit Center, Profit Center Hierarchies through SOA service.

But our MDG-Hub system is S4/HANA and target system is ECC SPPACK 6502 most probably. Hence I want to know what are the SAP notes required to implement for P2P integration rather than CPI cloud middleware. Because we have value mapping for certain cost-centers.

We are flexible to use services or IDocs between MDG and ERP. But only the point we would like to know is, whether if there are any advantages if we use middleware(SAP CPI) in between MDG and ERP (It can be either for current situation or when we have new S/4 HANA which replaces the existing ERP systems).

Hi Sekhar,

Does SAP CPI use SOA services to replicate data ? ALE-IDOC is not used to replicate MDG-F consolidation to target systems so ALE-Idocs may not be used in all cases to replicate. I hope this helps.
