We are having problems deploying our VB6 app with the Embeddable Report Designer. We were, until recently, using CR XI release 1 with no problems. However a problem with sub reports caused us to upgrade to CR XI Release 2. We then found another problem with the RDC in that we couldn't save a report. This has now been fixed in fixpack 5.2. But given that the latest merge modules for vb6 only go as far as sp3 let alone contain sp5 and the hotfix we cannot use the merge modules to deploy our app.
By replicating the files shipped in the merge modules I have managed to create an msi that works for all functions that i need except the RDC. I believe I have followed the code samples correctly when using SetLicenseKeycode to enter the report creation license but I cannot get the deployed application to accept the license. I have used Dependancy Walker, Process Explorer and Modules, searched the forums and read various white papers but I still cant get past the invalid or expired license message.
Have started to tear my hair out so any help would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks
Boris Cousins
See this wiki for download location of RDC MSM SP 5:

As you do not mention the actual issue that is resolved in FP 5.2, I am not sure if that fix is addressed in the merge module.
Other than that, creating your own deployment msi from scratch is not something I'd want to even comment on...

Ludek,
Thanks for your prompt reply. However when i try to access the wiki link i get:
Error Message - ObjectID not existant
The error we were having was that we couldnt save reports created using the embeddable designer. We logged an incident with SAP support and thats how we know it has been fixed in the fix pack.
We have been using Crystal Reports for a long time now so the idea of creating our own deployment msi from scratch isnt as daunting as it may seem and we have pretty much got it right apart from the report developer license code.
Kind Regards
Boris
Ludek,
We have built an install with the sp5 merge modules and our license is now accepted and we can create reports however clicking the report save button hangs our app. I'm assuming our next step is to apply the files relevant to our fix from the fix pack and see how we get on?
Kind Regards
Boris
Good. I was thinking of doing something along those lines my self. As it happens your solution is much simpler that what I was thinking of trying; apply the FP on the client. Unfortunately, this would require a modification of the registry on the client (not nice) as the powers that be decided that FPs should not be applied to client boxes. Anyhow, since there are 5 dot fixes still coming out, I suspect that SP 6 is planned and that should have the fix as well as merge modules.
