A Global Approach: How SAP Signavio Solutions Helped Transform HR at TE Connectivity

Electric vehicles, renewable energy, automated factories, and the cloud – these are just a few of the innovations made possible by TE Connectivity. For more than 80 years, TE has partnered with customers across every imaginable industry to produce highly engineered connectivity and sensing products that make a connected world possible. And when it comes to HR, TE is bringing that same level of innovation to operations around the globe.

Why did you decide it was time to transform HR processes across TE?

With more than 75,000 employees in more than 56 countries, workforce management has always been a challenge for us. Things were made even more difficult by a legacy HR system consisting of more than 200 HR & Payroll applications for everything from recruiting, to hiring, to payroll, and general employee data management.

We had a very ambitious need to transform our HR shared services internally, so that we could create unified shared services that would work for HR teams in our factories, plants, and corporate offices worldwide. To bring all these HR systems together under one roof, we used SAP SuccessFactors solutions.

What role did business process intelligence play in that transformation?

To effectively transform HR, my team and I knew we couldn’t just dive in without first understanding and analyzing the processes that had been in place for years. Many times, business leaders are desperate to get things moving – but if you don’t know the process, then you’re really starting blind. You need to begin by understanding whether you are building a ship or a plane, so diving deep into how things are working and where you need to be is a really critical first step.

The answer for us was comprehensive process mining and analysis using SAP Signavio solutions.

What did SAP Signavio solutions help you discover?

One of the key advantages with SAP Signavio solutions is the business process flow. You do the mining, then you analyze, and then you fine-tune. You need to figure out how many processes exist within a plant, or a region, or a business unit – all of which, when it came to HR, were essentially operating as separate companies.

All in all, we were able to model 1,200 unique processes across shared services, talent acquisition, payroll, and more. Over an initial four-month pilot, we discovered that TE had:

  • 400% more HR processes in place than the industry standard
  • A 40% process deviation rate for shared services, as well as 90% deviation for overall services
  • Talent attraction processes that were more than 50% manual
  • < 50% payroll automation

Document management alone was a massive undertaking for local HR teams, who were also required to manually assist with updates to basic employee data. Plus, our legacy ticketing system did not have multilingual support.

Where are you now in the HR transformation process?

Thanks to SAP Signavio solutions, I now have the visibility I need to optimize wherever possible. For example, we moved shared services to global supercenters in Asia and Latin America and freed up local HR teams to be really productive, rather than managing offline documentation.

We’ve also seen big wins with our global HR ticketing, which now offers multilanguage support from a mobile self-service chatbot that is live in 43 countries.

And we won’t stop there – talent acquisition is another key target. After all, to retain top talent, the first impression is so critical. How do you onboard your new hires? How long do they wait to get access? How easy it is to sync up and connect with HR processes? We have to understand this information to meet the demands of top candidates as we compete against well-known tech brands around the world.

Now the plan is very simple. Any new project, any new initiative, whether it’s business leaders or HR or my own team, we’re going to capture processes, evaluate best practices, and bring processes managers and operational leaders to a common table – all while keeping things flexible. That’s the magic of SAP Signavio solutions.
