TS Supply Optimizer - Fair Share for Inventory Target or SubPeriodsofSupply

Hi

We are using Fair Share for Inventory Target with IBP TS Optimizer.

We can see it works as expected if we maintain target as volumes in INVENTORYTARGET key figure.

However we were expecting it to also work if we maintain target with periods in SUBPERIODSOFSUPPLY with Lot Sizing Procedure = 1 (Static periods of supply).

Can anyone confirm if the Fair Share should work for this method?

Thanks for sharing

Adam

Hello Adam,

there is no fair-share for SUBPERIODSOFSUPPLY. So the experienced results are correct.

A fair-share for the inventories caused by SUBPERIODSOFSUPPLY could be achieved via fair-share for inventory holding. Please note that you need a maximium inventory in that case. See also Fair-Share Distribution.

Kind regards,
Carsten

Hello Carsten

Thanks for your clear reply.

The fair-share for inventory holding is an interesting idea but I think it brings me back to another issue.

Currently to be able ot use Fair Share, I am calculating INVENTORYTARGET as what is needed to reach SUBPERIODSOFSUPPLY based on an 'ideal' unconstrained DRP run. I do this as a pre-step with an unconstrained DRP run and copy operator.

With the inventory holding fair share idea, I would in effect replace INVENTORYTARGET with MAXINVENTORY as what is needed to reach SUBPERIODSOFSUPPLY (also as a pre-step).

So my main issue is that I want avoid the pre-step. I thought I could do this by making INVENTORYTARGET a key figure calculated within the Optimizer. I have not been able to get this to work. I guess the main problem is that INVENTORYTARGET becomes both an output and input of the Optimizer. Can you confirm if this is even possible?

I have additional complexity as I have 3 levels (LOC1 > LOC2 > LOC3) which means that I have to refer to DEPENDENTDEMAND when calculating INVENTORYTARGET and as I am using a Shelf Life planning area, this key figure is defined at PERPRODLOCSHLFID instead of PERPRODLOC, which breaks the calculation.

Thanks in advance for any further advice you can give.

Regards

Adam

Hello Adam,

the optimizer can't compute INVENTORYTARGET - this is a pure input to the optimizer. You'll probably need 2 optimizer runs or your pre-step to achieve this with INVENTORYTARGET.

You may not need to compute the MAXINVENTORYs. With e.g. MAXINVENTORY of 100 the SUBPERIODOFSUPPLYs should be fair-shared in segments of 25 when inventory fair-share is active with 4 segments.

Concerning your key-figure calculation issue: please ask a new question for this. I'm no expert in that area.

Cheers, Carsten
