Alternate Resource in RCCP

Hello Experts,

Can we show capacity overload in an Alternate resource in Unconstrained heuristics in SAP IBP?

In Optimizer it is possible to model alternate resources, but can we do in RCCP? Is there a workaround?

Context - For parallel operations, the alternate resource has to be used which will be having a separate capacity.

The scenario here is: There are 2 Resources R1 & R2. R1 has max production capacity of 100 units & R2 has capacity of 500 units.

The requirement is to load both the resources simultaneously as per the demand & show overload on both the resources. The ask here is not to prioritize any resource or shift production in case of overload. Both R1 & R2 should be used for the same production version, Capacity utilization should be calculated.

We have license only for Unconstrained heuristics in the current landscape.

Hello,

As you know, Unconstrained Heuristics doesn't look at any capacity constraints and thus generates resource overloads.

Alternate resources, in contrast, are required when the primary resources don't have enough capacity or the algorithm has to make a cost-based or priority-based decision to select a resource for production. Hence, Unconstrained heuristics don't support ( or require ) alternate resources.

For your requirement, you can model your "alternate resource" as just another resource for your production version in the Production source Resource Master data. And you can use the combination of Sourcing ratios and resource consumption to replicate the behavior you aim for in your business scenario.

e.g. You can give 50-50 in the production sourcing ratio and double the value in the resource consumption.
