Introduction

SAP Digital Manufacturing provides comprehensive OEE calculation capabilities out of the box, where Performance Losses play an important role. The main purpose of the Performance KPI, is to compare the actual production speed to the designed production speed. In other terms, it's about becoming aware of speed losses. Simply put, Speed Loss means the "production time lost to shop floor equipment or process running below standard rated speed".

In this blog post, I will cover the process of handling Speed Losses in SAP Digital Manufacturing, including how they are created, tagged and monitored.

Prerequisites

Creating

Speed Loss entries are automatically created when production is slower than the pre-defined standard rate.

Meaning that, if the standard rate configured for a given material and resource combination is set as 1 piece by 1 min, and SFCs take longer than 1 min to start and complete, Speed Loss entries are automatically created and shown in POD via Speed Loss List plugin.

* Speed Loss List plugin opens by default filtered by the current POD context (Work Center, Resource, Order, etc) of the SFC selected. You can enable ‘Show Filters’ in POD Designer for Speed Loss List plugin, so you can see and change filter criteria accordingly:

Tagging

When a Speed Loss entry in Speed Loss List plugin is selected, all relevant details like context, tagged and untagged speed loss time and existing reason code tagging are shown. From here, workers can then Tag or Delete speed loss items further.

When tagging, workers can select a Reason Code and Duration.

This process can be repeated multiple times, enabling different Speed Loss durations to be tagged with different reason codes.

Once tagged, speed loss items reason codes can also be changed or deleted.

Monitoring

Performance KPI and Speed Loss details can be seen and monitored in detail via Line Monitor POD, including speed loss reason codes and durations.

Hi Manoel,

Thanks for the excellent blog post.

Is it also possible to analyze the speed loss data using embedded SAC in SAP DM?

Best regards,
Manuel
