Clicking on 'Comment' button with empty text field gives strange result

Because the inital comment field is inadequate, I tried clicking on the 'Comment' button, before entering any text. Just to see if I would be presented with the full editor.

Alas, (part of?) the page just reloaded, and only when I opened the Replies panel (it had closed), was I greeted with this:

For information, the vertical text of your screenshot is: "Correct the highlighted errors and try again."

Really don't see this as a bug. It doesn't look great obviously, but it's informing you that you need to enter text before hitting the "Comment" button. That's how it's designed to work.

I can look into getting the display improved.

Kind regards,

Hi Jerry,

In my opinion a bug is anything that does not work or look like it is supposed to. In this case it's just a minor bug, but because it is not something that comes up regularly, I thought it worth mentioning.

Anyway, I guess the real problems I see with this element are three-fold:

  1. When you press the button the page reloads and the comment field and error text are hidden. So first impression is that nothing at all happened. A simple solution would be to activate the button only once at least some text is entered. Instead of an error message after the fact. This would save network traffic, and server CPU cycles.
  2. You have to open the replies section before you can comment. This is annoying, and with all the surplus white space in the current design, it is unnecessary to hide elements. Especially "first responder" elements.
  3. You can only enter very short one-liners. For one-liners I have X (formerly Twitter). When not frustrated and cranky (apologies for some of my earlier comments to your posts by the way), I like to be polite, say hello and please, and be clear and descriptive. Where I would like to comment:
    "Hi [Name here],
Would you please post a screenshot of [clear description of what I mean]
    Regards,
    Johan"
The current solution allows only for caveman style:
    "Screenshot [thing]"
Or you need to open the Replies section again, find your comment, click the Edit button, etc. which is obviously not ideal.

Regards,

Johan

It's barely decodable. If you consider it must be fixed, it's a bug, if you consider it can be kept as it is forever, it's an enhancement. So it's a bug according to me 😉

EDIT: oooh... Is that already fixed?

P.S. The feedback part of the point is that there is no full editor available, and in lieu of having it right off the bat, it would be nice to have a button or option or setting or something that shows a full editor, without having to go through: post , show replies, scroll to reply, surf the menu, edit comment.
