Scanning problem regarding pallets, how to solve bottleneck?

Hi my name is Erik, I am an intern at FrieslandCampina.

At my work we're encountering a problem regarding the transportation of pallets to the wrong warehouse, (we have three) forklift drivers scan pallets to the wrong warehouse. The reason why this problem occurs is because these forklift drivers did the same task for a long time (scanning to one of the warehouses) so when a freight of other pallets needs to go to warehouse 1 instead of warehouse 2 they get scanned to the wrong warehouse and they get shipped off only to be discovered that the pallets are at the wrong warehouse. This failure is responsible for quite a bit of transportation and staff costst to correct.

My plan was to increase prevention costs by implementing an extra control barricade within SAP so when a pallet gets scanned to the wrong warehouse it blocks this activity and gives an error so the employee knows he/she made a mistake, but I don't know if that is even possible and what even the costs of such an implementation would be.

Anyone's help would be greatly appreciated.

With kind regards,

Erik.

Hi Erik,

I am afraid you have picked (at least partly) the wrong tags for your question. 'Software Logistics' deals with the logistics of software, in effect moving software changes from one SAP system to the other. Therefore the experts in this area will not be able to help you.

I would suggest to remove the software logistics tags and add tags like LE (Logistics Execution) or LE Warehouse Management.

Kind regards
Harald

Hello Erik,

I would focus on the barcode determination, so if the forklift drivers must scan a barcode then the barcode should contain the correct warehouse instead of implementing an additional check that drops an error while scanning the wrong warehouse. When the barcode is being generated then should be there some kind of warehouse determination that makes sure the forklift driver doesn't have to re-think where he/she should supply the goods, just only scan the already correct barcode which is having the correct warehouse.

Best regards, Peter
