Moving an S/4 HANA On-Premise system to RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition

Hi,

No matter how much I look I can't find any information on moving an S/4 HANA On-Premise system to RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition .

From a technical point of view questions I have are:
- Is there a certain release of S/4 HANA Cloud Private Edition you will be forced to move onto.

- Do you have to upgrade your on premise system to a certain level to move to RISE.

- It would be good to see something that shows the differences of moving different SAP releases to RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition.

e.g. SAP ERP 6.0 EHP5 --> RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition

SAP S/4 HANA 20210 On Premise --> RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition

etc, etc.

- Do you still need to use the data migration workbench?

- Do you still need to use the SAP Readiness Check for SAP S/4HANA?

I did find a whole lot of other questions below that I wouldn't mind some ideas about.

1. Evaluate your current system: Assess your current SAP S/4 HANA system and identify any potential issues that need to be resolved before upgrading.

2. Review your customizations: Review your custom Fiori apps and Vendor Invoice Management system (VIM) to determine if any changes will need to be made during the upgrade process.

3. Consider integration with Ariba: Determine how your Ariba system will integrate with the new cloud platform and if any additional customizations are required.

4. Choose a migration approach: Decide which migration approach you will use for moving your system to the cloud. You can opt for a full migration or a hybrid approach.

5. Plan for testing: Develop a testing plan that includes functional testing, performance testing, and user acceptance testing.

6. Train your staff: Provide training to your staff on the new system and its functionality to ensure they are comfortable using it.

7. Manage the migration: Manage the migration process to ensure that it runs smoothly, and any issues that arise are addressed immediately.

Can't find any blogs about these things so maybe someone knowledgeable can write one 🙂

I don't ask for much do I?

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards,
Keith Webb.

Hello Keith,

Let me try to answer a couple of your questions:

Do you have to upgrade your on-premise system to a certain level to move to RISE?.

Ideally, you should upgrade your system as part of your transition from OP to RISE (Private cloud). However, it is not mandatory to upgrade your OP to move to RISE. As long as you are in an SAP S/4HANA version that is (and will be for at least one year) under mainstream maintenance, you can perform a lift and shift to move to RISE.

For instance, if a customer is currently running in SAP S/4HANA 2021, they can decide to only do a lift and shift to move to RISE. But before the end maintenance of that version (end of 2026), they must upgrade their system to the latest release.

- Do you still need to use the SAP Readiness Check for SAP S/4HANA?

In my opinion, SAP Readiness Check is a must if you are planning to upgrade your system as part of your move. If you are not planning to upgrade, it is not mandatory but recommended. It will help you to identify for example the SAP S/4HANA compatibility scope items that you are currently using.

Why do you need to know the SAP S/4HANA compatibility scope items you are using before moving to RISE?

As I tried to explain in this blog Functional differences between SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition and SAP S/4HANA On-premise , we know that both solutions share the same codeline. However, it does not mean that both have the same scope. For various strategic reasons, some features currently available in SAP S/4HANA On-Premise were not included for use with SAP S/4HANA Cloud, private edition. This refers to a few features that are part of the SAP S/4HANA compatibility scope.

Hello Jose M,

We are SAP Partner and we help customer to use SAP product which are integrated with our product.

Few questions about RISE:

1. RISE support various options/areas like below

  • SAP S/4HANA Cloud Private Edition
  • System Hosting Options
  • SAP Business Network
  • SAP BTP Consumption Credits
  • Business Process Automation
  • Embedded Tools and Services
  • Sustainability Solutions

As a partner we need to certify SAP products and in this case SAP S4 HANA with RISE, so being partner do we need to purchase complete RISE subscription or is it ok to host SAP S4 HANA on private cloud(aws) which our company owns? can we purchase SAP manage services to support our aws instance in this case?
