Preventive maintenance planification

Hi Experts,

Please I have a requirement but I don't know it can work in SAP. I'm using maintenance plan with strategy so if for example I have a strategy with (1 week, 1 month and 1 year) I want to be able to plan the 1 year first in a specific date then the automatic scheduling should be done for the other cycles (1 week and 1 month), start date field is not what I want because I want to schedule first with the exact date the maintenance for the 1 year cycle then the scheduling should be done based on this planification.

Thanks in advance,

Regards

Mika,

Use the Start in Cycle button in IP10.

Hi Peter,

It does not work for me,

I have a strategy with 3cycles (1 Week, 1 Month and 1 Year). I have the exact date for the maintenance of the Package for 1 Year

1 Year --> 22.08.2021.

I want the system to generate based on this date the scheduling for the whole year for the other packages before 22.08.2021 and after august because I'm planning year by year

Thank you in advance,

Hi Mika,

1. Ensure you are assigning the same hierarchy levels for all packages in strategy. (Because you are expecting all packages to be called on due date). To to see detailed dates in maintenance plan scheduling, enter the longer scheduling period in maintenance plan e.g. 5 YR.

2. As said by Peter, you can not mix the UoM in strategies. So use only one unit, for your requirement DAY is perfect.

3. You need to ensure all packages can fall on same day. It can not be done in case of 7 Days, 30 Days and 365 Days. If possible, Try to use 7 days, 28 Days and 364 Days.

4. Go to maintenance plan scheduling (IP10) and click on start in cycle.

5. On pop up enter the Completion Date = (22.08.2021 - lowest package cycle i.e. 7 Days) = 15.08.2021

6. Select the push button 'select package'. Select the column of package 357th Day (i.e. Package prior to 364th Day) and click on 'set start offset'.

7. Go back and in planned dates from maintenance plan scheduling you can see next due date is 28th Aug 2021 with weekly, monthly and yearly packages.

Above said solution is most closer to meet your expectation using strategy based plan. If you are not okay to adjust the monthly and yearly cycle duration, then best and simple option is to create three single cycle plans for required cycles.

Hi Sundar,

I'm using a strategy with the same units "WEEKS" and with the same Hierarchy " 1 " there is no issue about this.

This is what I want to achieve: I want to have schedule dates also before 22.08.2021 I don't want to start from 22.08.2021 but I want that the scheduling be triggered based on this date 22.08.2021 in order to calculate the other dates.

Thank you,

Regarding the point 5 it does not work also because I put as completion date: 22.08.2021 and I set start offset as below

As result the Plan date starts from completion date 22.08.2021 + 1W = 29.08.2021

Mika,

I don't think you are following the instructions set out by Sundar or myself..

Try setting 09/05/2021 in the Start in Cycle popup, then use the Select Package button to set the offset to the package highlighted below.

This will then tell the system which inspection/maintenance and package where last executed. The system will then determine the next series of call dates.

Hi Guys,

I prepared a good example for my requirement, thank you in advance for your help,

We have a strategy with 3 cycles (1W, 1M and 1Y). Each year we do our planning as following: we plan frist 1Y and then we want the plan to be done based on that for the others. As you can see below I have planned the 1Y (month 7, 28 Week) and based on that I want to generate the same planning as below and we are doing this each year.

Please what are you recommandations? and how could we do that or how can I achieve this?

Thank you,

peter.atkin Thank you for your feedback, but did you see the example in my comment ? for you it's possible to get this with the start cycle ? because with the start in cycle it's not possible to get the example I have in the excel file. Please again, could just show me in you can do this in SAP ? because you can do it with an earlier date in the past but with this you will have call in the Past.

Perform a Start in Cycle as per my table above and send us the results of the IP10 schedule.

Hi peter.atkin ,

In the example sent to be sure it's working if I want to have the 1Y package in the 25.07.2022, and the whole plan from the first week of January 2022 based on that date planned for the 1Y,

So which date should I put as completion date?

Thank you,

Try putting the 09.05.2021 and the 1st 1W/1M package as the confirmation date.

You will just need to experiment until you get it right. And that way you will learn how it works..

IP10 is a little confusing to get you head around - especially the Start in Cycle option..

If you want the 1Y to occur on 22.08.2021, then you need to do the following:

  1. Determine which package in the sequence would be due next and on what date
  2. The go backwards one package (and its corresponding date) and enter that information in the Start in Cycle fields. This can be done either in the popup, or via the Select Package button. The way I always think of this is that you are telling the system which package was created last, and it will calculate the next one.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your feedback, but please I didn't understand how to do that please do you have any screens?

1- I don't see where can I determine the package in the sequence and date ? the same for the due date ?

2- What should I enter in Start in Cycle?

I will appreciate,

Thank you,

  • Select Start in Cycle button
  • Select whether to skip/delete any open calls
  • The Completion Date will default to current date. Change to the date that the last order was completed.
  • Select the Select Package button and select the package when the last order was completed by using the Set Start Offset button. Use the Back button to return to the IP10 screen
  • The system will now determine the next call dates

Hi Peter,

This will not work for my requirement, let me explain clearly what I want to achieve.

I have a strategy with 3 packages (1 WEEK, 1 MONTH, 1 YEAR)

I want to have the maintenance for the Package 1 year in 22.08.2021

Result expected:

1S

1S

1S

1S 1M

…….

1S 1M 1Y --> 22.08.2021

1S

1S

…..

So based on the date of the Package related to 1 year (22.08.2021) I want to schedule the maintenance, I don't want to use the start date because I don't know which date should I put in order to have the Package 1Y exactly in 22.08.2021. Like when you use manual call you can choose the exact date for the call,

Please let me know if it was clear,

Thank you,

The process I described above should allow you to schedule the plan to create the 1Y on 22.08.2021, but as I also pointed out, getting the scheduling dates right is a real pain... I've no idea why SAP decided on this mechanism, but its always been this way...

Secondly, if you are mixing WEEKS and MONTHS in your strategy, then the "1S 1M" or "1S 1M 1Y" packages will not align properly. As I stated in one of your earlier posts - SAP do not recommend mixing UoMs in strategies.

Hi Peter,

Also the solution you have proposed does not work also because I put as completion date: 22.08.2021 and I set start offset as below

As result the Plan date starts from completion date 22.08.2021 + 1W = 29.08.2021

Thank you,
