Prevent Over referencing in Credit Memo

Hi Gurus

Business wants to create a debit memo request with reference to a sales order. However, we want to place a restriction so that it is not possible to create debit memo requests for more than the quantity of the original sales order. After the sales order quantity has been fully referenced, no further debit memo requests should be allowed.

What would be the best standard configuration setting to achieve this?

I do not understand the business requirement, first of all my question would be, why does the business want to create a debit memo request against a sales order?

And to answer your question, yes the standard configuration exists in copy control which is known as complete reference.
