Hi Team,

Can anyone explain what is the purpose of Message control tab in the Partner Profile (WE20) Outbound parameters.

It has Application, Message Type & Process Code.

What the Message Type here refers to?

Thank you in Advance

Hello mounikaravilla

To supplement fprokopiuk answer, which is spot on - indeed WE20 Application, Message Type & Process Code links output determination with ALE/EDI processing - let me add that output types need to be processed with RSNASTED program, routine ALE_PROCESSING or EDI_PROCESSING.

The processing is as follows:

  1. An application determines an output.
  2. The output is processed with ALE_PROCESSING or EDI_PROCESSING routine from the RSNASTED program.
  3. The routine gets the process code from WE20 for the given application and the output type.
  4. The process code is defined in WE41 and it links the process code with a function module that actually builds the IDoc.

Best regards

Hi Mounika,

Message type is connected to output type which is also used for example for printouts.

Application determines type of document, for example documents connected to billing hava Application V3 and those connected to Shipment are from V2 application.

Output type provide more details about actual document processing for example to print it or to send EDI message. You can check the config in NACE transaction.

Process code is used to choose how message is converted to or from iDoc format, usually it leads to chosen function module like IDOC_OUTPUT_INVOIC for outbound invoices.

I hope it helps, have a nice day!
