How to write off an empty Barrel (Barrels have RFIDs)

1. Acid comes from the vendor in barrels ( barrels are with unique numbers, and have to be returned to the vendor)

2. Handling Unit = Barrel

3. Barrels have RFID tags

4. Acid in Inbound Delivery is packed into Barrels ( Acid packed into Handling Unit Barrels. Main item position ACID and subposition Barrels)

5. At the Goods Receipt step we have 2 item positions: 1) Acid 2) Barrels

6. Storage location is not relevant for storing Handling Units

With these prerequisites I have a question. How to write off an empty Barrel/ how to do it correctly? Bear in mind that each Barrel have unique RFID/unique number. I have done research on this, so far have not found the solution.

Hello cybermayer

Honestly your process looks very standard - after an inbound delivery goods receipt a barrel is just put on stock. Therefore you can write off a barrel with basically any goods issue e.g. against a cost center or with an physical inventory process. The only question is if you actually manage barrels' individual number (RFID tags) in the system. If so, most probably they are managed as serial numbers. Then, you should specify the serial number while posting the goods issue, which is again SAP standard function.

Hi, 3a9e4ce873a94034b33dc62b0ce600ee,

Thank you so much for your reply.

We don't have Serial Numbers activated yet and currently thinking if it right to utilize them in our case.

If we do so ( activate SN), then barrels will be modelled by Handling Units and Serial Numbers simultaneously ( Barrel will be represented as HU and SN at the same time).

Now the question is wouldn't Serial Numbers be excessive( too much)? Is there any way you see that we could reach the aim without activating Serial Numbers?

Thanks a lot!

Kind regards,
