Error when restoring full system backup to a new server

Hi All,

We have a new dev environment where we are testing an upgrade to version 10 for HANA (from 9.3 PL 12 for HANA).

We have setup the new environment (HANA and B1 installed successfully). We made a full system back from the current dev and wanted to restore to the new dev and upgrade it but we are getting an error when trying to restore the full system backup.
Error:

Note3086487_SAP HANA Recovery failed in nameserver startup convert topology failed

Please can you point me in the right direction in restoring a full catalog backup from one server to a new one.
Thank you all in advance,

Jerusha

Hi Jerusha,

If it is suitable you can setup system replication between these two systems by choosing the old dev system as source system and the new db as target one. Target version of HANA may be equal to or greater than the source system in HANA system replication. After a successfull data synchronization, the replication connection can be closed and the secondary system (New DEV system) can be used as a standalone system.

Best Regards

Hello Ismail,

Thank you so much for your solution. We have tried this and will let you know if it works. Would we just run the upgrade again after the replication has completed?

Hello Jerusha,

Thank you. You can upgrade HANA after the system replication is setup and data is synchronized. If you have upgraded the secondary system before the replication setup it is not necessary to upgrade it again.
