Counter-Based Maintenance Planning

Former Member

Hi, I am quite new to SAP so as usual please be patient! I've spent a lot of time going through existing discussions but haven't found anything to help me.

I am having 3 main issues:

1) orders being released BEFORE counts reached

2) creating a plan to apply to all equipment requiring the same maintenance cycle

3) plan scheduling

I am attempting to set up performance based planning for a large number of equipment. I have succesfully set up the counters using the following transactions:

CT04 - Create characteristic

IK01 - Create measuring point

IK11 - Create measuring document

I have checked "MeasPoint is Counter" and provided an annual estimate.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

1) With regards to my first problem I have found that creating frequent (daily) measuring documents with 0 difference readings seems to solve this problem. This is necessary as the equipment may be inactive for some periods of time (maintenance or during shutdowns). It would be very useful if there was a way to create these measuring documents automatically at scheduled intervals. Is there?

Also, placing a very low value for the annual estimate also seems to work but this just feels like a wrong way of going about it.

2) I have planned the maintenance by creating a strategy, then a general task list and then using IP42 to plan the maintenance. However this only applies to a single piece of equipment. As there are almost 1000 pieces of equipment that will require maintenance after the same number of counts i was hoping there is a way to create a single plan and then attach each piece of equipment with its counter to follow this plan keeping in mind that each piece of equipment has different use/activity.

3) This seems to be a common problem. When i update the counter reading to surpass the maintence counter value IP10 displays "scheduled - Save to call". I would like not to have to manually go into IP10 every day for each equipment to see if the count has been reached and then save to release the order. I am not authorised to use IP30 which i think would somehow solve this problem. Is this correct?

If IP30 is the only way around this i may be able to request access.

Any insight into any of these issues would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Dominick

elaborating point 1) orders being released BEFORE counts reached ----

Annual estimate, like it is 36500 hr. means 100 hr/day counter will run.,

plan/order cycle/FREQ. scheduled is every 3000 hrs and starts on 01.12.13.

now if counter reading reaches at 2910 hrs today, it will release the order as system calculates & assumes counter will run 100 hr/day & today end it should be crossed trigger point (2910+100) i.e. 3000hrs.

point no-2 & 3 already well described by Mr. Thyagarajan.

Hi

Querry 1: There is no way for automatic updating the measurement document , you can either specify very low value may be once in a week so that which scheduling the maintenance plan it will reschedule .

Querry 2: if you frequency is same for all the equipment then you can create one maintenance plan with several maintenance item, in the maintenance item you can specify the respective equipment. but keep in mind the scheduling parameter and the cycle will be same for all the equipments attached here with

Querry 3: You can schedule the background job for IP30 so that it runs on predefined frequencey say every day or once in a week as you like which will call the call object once the counter is reached. you need not run the IP10 daily

Hi Thyagarajan,

Thanks for your reply.

1) Is there no way to schedule measurment document in IP30?

2) I'm not sure you understood my problem. As i mentioned, the frequency will not be the same. Each piece of equipment has its own counter so i dont think adding multiple items will help as they will all rely on one counter reading and all items will be released at the same time. I do not want this.

Is there a way around this besides creating 1000 identical maintenance plans?

3) Ok thanks

Hi

1. You cannot able to schedule the measurement document in IP30 , may be you can use LSMW periodically to update the same

2. i think there is no other way apart from creation of individual maintenance plan

Thanks, Iwill look into LSMW.
