Color handling

Former Member

Hi,

May i know how the color variants are handled,

For example, We have a vehicle, it has 4 color options for cabin(Parts are same otherthan color)

so now what we do is (in our currrent practice is that) release 4 vehicles with 4 color cabins, but this makes documentation more combursome.

Even though there are some best practice and Materialising these concepts being tough

Can i get a solution to reduce the documentaion in,

-> PLM - eMAtrix or Enovia V6 platform or

-> Using color Node in SAP iPPE - a illustrative example will help me.

any concept materialised can be also helpful

Regards,

Ananth KK

Ananth,

easiest way could be Cabin with different colour should have diff material number and can be selected with characterstic with values for specific colour.

If you are using Instruction which will in trun used on shop floor to colour the part, you can use extra characterstic which can be used for putting instruction as text and this text can be used while printing production order, for doing this you need to develop a custom print program.

Check and reply.

Thanks

Hi Ritesh,

Thanks for your information, Pls correct me if i am wrong,

You mean to say to have a extra digit in Part NO. itself or to allot one in Assy. line, or just a standing instuction for the paint shop.

Pls suggest and do you konw some OEM's practice on this, if so pls share that info too(no need even to mention OEMs name)

Ananth,

first option could be, create material number for every colour of paint , and put them in super BOM along with relevant selection condition and required one will be selected as per the value selected by user at the time of configuration, the discription of material will be printed in production order.

if your Paint is not part of super BOM or if you have a Cabinet as part in Super BOM but want to specify a colour of Cabinet once cabinet is selected, you can include a characterstic which could be EXTRA and user can assign value like Cabinet BLUE Colour , its just the text and while printing the production order paper , print program will fecth value of characterstic EXTRA to be printed along with production order components and this value will be work as instruction for shop floor operator to paint Cabinet with BLUE colur.

hope it will help you.
