Overview and Features

The SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check will help you in planning your transition to SAP S/4HANA and gives you an overview of the to-do’s and the actual readiness of your productive ERP-System for the journey to SAP S/4HANA. In the beginning of SAP S/4HANA in 2015 there were several separate tools to check the readiness of your productive ERP System. Each one with its own notes and prerequisites to use and it was cumbersome to get all the necessary information together. With SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check you get all the required information in just one report, merged together in an overview dashboard. The SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check is available since June 2017 (version 1.0) and is free of charge for every customer with a valid SAP Support agreement.

It is THE tool to use, when you want to get an overview of the tasks to get your ERP-System ready for the conversion to SAP S/4HANA and provides a very good overview of several aspects of the preparation phase and also allows for detailed information on each aspect so you can get an estimation of the effort it will take to get SAP S/4HANA ready. The results of the Readiness Check are provided via an overview dashboard on the SAP Support Portal and summarizes the most important aspects of the conversion in an easily consumable way.

The development of the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check has undergone some improvements and is now available in version 2.0 which offers some great enhancements.

The SAP S/4HANA Readiness Checks offers the following features:

  • Compatibility Check of active Business Functions

  • Add-On Compatibility Check

  • Custom Code Analysis

  • Recommended SAP Fiori Apps

  • SAP S/4HANA Sizing

  • Checking of relevant Simplification Items

  • Business Process Analytics

  • SAP Custom Development Projects

Prerequisites for SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check

In Order to run the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check you have to observe some prerequisites which are listed in detail in some SAP Notes. You will find all the information about the steps in the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check User Guide.

In order to run the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check the following steps must be observed:

  • You need SAP Solution Manager 7.1 SPS 12 or higher or SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SPS 3 or higher

  • You need a minimal transaction history (transaction ST03, logging data) of 6-8 weeks (better more). You should have UPL (Usage and Procedure Logging) switched on or use the SCMON (SAP Call Monitor) for archiving your logging data.

  • Further you have to implement some SAP Notes mentioned in chapter 2 of the User Guide.

Running the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check

The normal and recommended way to run the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check is via the SAP Solution Manager. In your SAP Solution Manager system, use transaction SE38 to execute the report AGSRC_START_ANALYSIS.

The report triggers the SAP Readiness Check for SAP S/4HANA.

In case you have not installed a SAP Solution Manager system, it is also possible to perform the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check in the managed system. Refer to the blog Simplification Item Catalog, Simplification Item Check and SAP Readiness Check for SAP S/4HANA for additional details and instructions.

Access and Analysis

The launchpad for the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check results can be found on the SAP Support Portal: URL: https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#readiness

The report starts with an overwiew dashboard of all relevant aspects of the system preparation for the conversion to SAP S/4HANA. For SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check 2.0 this could look like this:

In each tile of the dashboard you get the most important information on a single glance. To dive deeper into the analysis just click on the tile you want to explore. For example if you want to investigate the SAP S/4HANA Sizing you get the following detailed analysis:

Here you can see the estimated DB-size as initial target size and after data clean-up for in-memory and disk size and how the values aggregate in detail.

You can always go back to the overview dashboard – navigation is very intuitive.

Additional Information

There is also a version of the SAP Readiness Check for SAP BW/4 HANA Systems available, see second column of the SAP Landing Page for SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check

Beside the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check there are a lot of other tools available helping you on your journey to SAP S/4HANA and still new enhanced ones are being developed. Just to mention 2 more tools to check out what SAP S/4HANA can do for you, have a look at the Business Scenario Recommendation Report (BSR) and the Transformation Navigator.

The BSR will give you a personalized view on the advantages and improvements of SAP S/4HANA based on your individual system usage. The Transformation Navigator uses data of you actual SAP Landscape to help you improve it on the journey to SAP S/4HANA and gives advice of additionally available solutions that are SAP S/4HANA approved.

Here is a short video on these tools: video.

Hello Rilo,

Great effort for the blog.

As I understand from the blog, you are trying to highlight steps for SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check 2.0 (because it doesn't make sense of using S/4HANA Readiness Check 1.0 as it is getting decommissioned on 31st December, 2019). But I find some discrepancies on what is mentioned in context for S/4HANA Readiness Check 2.0

In "Prerequisites for SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check" step, you have mentioned that we need SAP Solution Manager to run Readiness check which is not true for Readiness Check 2.0 as there is no option available to create readiness check 2.0 through solution manager (SAP Note 2758146). So running AGSRC_START_ANALYSIS is no longer required for readiness check. This step is required for Readiness Check 1.0

Also in "Access and Analysis" section, you have mentioned that SAP S/4HANA Readiness check 2.0 look like the screenshot you have just pasted. I think that screenshot looks like S/4HANA Readiness Check 1.0 dashboard because for 2.0 dashboard looks like below.

Dennis.

Hello Dennis,

thanks for your kind comment and the clarification about the solution manager not being nessecary for SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check 2.0. You are right - i should have made this more clear.

Regarding the screenshot i am quite sure this is from a Readiness Check 2.0 - indeed the results from a cutomer report anonymized. I guess the order of tiles can be different and some tiles could even be omitted if there is no data provided. This can happen when there is not sufficient logging data for the ERP system checked for example so each report can look a bit different.

Best regards,

Rilo

Hello Rilo,

The reason why I'm said that the screenshot is not from Readiness Check 2.0 is because you are still using URL https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#readiness which is used to check Readiness Check 1.0.

For Readiness Check 2.0, we need to use below URL to generate the dashboard.

https://rc.cfapps.eu10.hana.ondemand.com

If you follow steps from blog, and generate Readiness Check 2.0 dashboard using above ondemand URL, I feel you will get the same dashboard as highlighted in my earlier comment.

Readiness Check 1.0 triggered from solution manager will help you to directly get the report in the URL https://launchpad.support.sap.com/#readiness. But for Readiness Check 2.0, RC2AnalysisDataSIDyyyymmdd.zip file generated in managed system needs to be uploaded in URL https://rc.cfapps.eu10.hana.ondemand.com which will then create a dashboard.

Dennis

Hello Dennis,

thanks again for your comment and clearification. The launchpad link you mentioned has nothing to do  with the picture of the Readiness Check i posted – it is just taken from a customer report and it should be Readiness Check 2.0. In Readiness Check 1.0 or 1.01 you dont have the extra tiles for BW Extractors, for the SAP Innovative Business Solutions (former known as SAP Custom Development) and the Business Process Analysis! So this has to be Readiness Check 2.0 but you are right with the new instructions for Readiness Check 2.0 and the launchpad. So thanks again for making this clear!

P.S. just had a closer look to the blog you mentioned which is very much detailed! Can be that there were two ways to generate the RC 2.0 and that they look a bit different. The procedure is still being improved and may change every now and again - so we always have historical data when we post it 😉 It is always important to read the latest instructions and SAP notes about the SAP S/4HANA Readiness Check.

Best regards, Rilo

Hello Rilo,

I am still not very clear to be honest. Is it not recommended to run readiness check 2.0 via solution manager or is it just not possible? If its possible, can you please refer me some blog/notes to follow for the preparation in solution manager 7.2 sp8, as we had 1.0 until now .

Hello Nilesh,

sorry for the late Reply, was on vacancy.

In the (old) User Guide for RC 2.0 it is described to use TAC SE38 in the Solution Manager to execute the report AGSRC_START_ANALYSIS to start the analysis.

In the actual Landing page for the RC 2.0: https://help.sap.com/viewer/product/SAP_READINESS_CHECK/200/en-US

please see the sap note 2758146 and follow the description for the new way of launching RC 2.0.

I guess the old way via SolMan is still possible, but things change quickly at SAP, so i am not 100% sure to be honest.

P.S.: just checked with a collegue: the way via Solution Manager is no longer supported.

Hi Taryck,

sorry for that. Seems they change or reorganize things every now and again. Please go to the global SAP Readiness Check Landing page instead: https://help.sap.com/docs/SAP_READINESS_CHECK?locale=en-US

Also please be aware of new types of readiness check, for example Cloud-ALM RC.

thanks,

Rilo
