Objective

This FAQ provide answers to repeated asked questions regarding a new functionality: Assigned Objects in Quality Notification.

Technical Name of the Business Function: EHP 4

OPS_QM_NOTIFICATION and OPS_QM_EXTENSIONS

What is Assigned Objects in Quality Notification?

You can assign multiple objects (batches, serial numbers..) to a notification at ITEM LEVEL. This enables you better document problems or errors.

How can I activate Assigned Objects in Quality Notification?

Please make sure that you have activated the EHP4 with business function OPS_QM_NOTIFICATION and all its dependencies e.g. EA-PLM and OPS_QM_EXTENSIONS.

You would see that there should be a separate tab in Item level for the assigned objects.

Please go to customization below to add the new tab. The screen area number is 840.

QM > Quality notification>  'Overview of notification type'

During results recording does it generate a single notification for all batches/serial numbers?

No, the functionality Assigned Objects is not integrated with defect recording, this is missing functionality.

How can I select and import multiple batch numbers to the Quality Notification?

You have two options:

- You can enter ranges:

When you enter a range (such as 1 - 5), the system adopts all batches and/or serial numbers where the key is between 1 and 5 as assigned objects in the notification item.

- You can enter generic values:

When you enter a range (such as 5  * ), the system adopts all batches and/or serial numbers where the key is starts with 5 as assigned objects in the notification item.

Where can I find more information about Assigned Objects?

You can find in transaction SFW5 the prerequisites of activation of business function OPS_QM_NOTIFICATION using button 'Dependencies' and a detailed documentation and release information using the correspondent buttons next to the business function.

If you have more doubts about this topic, please comment and maybe I can help you

Hi Natalie,

I'm hoping you can direct me to the right channel for my question.

We are currently extending our qm process to include the use of assigned objects for items in ERP.

How can we extract this data to BW with BI Content extractors?

I wasn't able to find any info on this topic.

Regards,

Amber

Natalia., Nice and useful sharing, I recently used this functionality in a project and I am wondered that item level batch can be assigned but there is nothing to view all assigned batches consolidated with in notification.... any idea why?

further, it should place to enter or populate the batch quantity individually... what do you say?

Hi Natalia,

I'm trying to create a custom object category(Material), I had followed every step. i.e define object category, implementing BAdi and the configuring for a notification type. And the same was reflecting in Assigned objects screen.

However, all the columns seems to be greyed out when i'm trying to create a notification. Am i missing something? or did i do something wrong?.

Regards,

Praveen.

Hi Praveen,

when maintaining assigned objects, you have to maintain an item first, as assigned objects always relate to an item because they are on item level. Without an item you cannot assign objects.

Once you maintained an item, the fields should be ready for input and not greyed out.

Natália

Hi Natalia,

It worked like a charm. My functional did the same and he is able to maintain values now. However, he showed the same to client and they came back saying that maintaining the object category by adding a single row every time is hectic, and want do it at a time(i think copyng from a excel and paste it in SAP). I don't know what they were talking about. But by using ranges we should be able to achieve it.

Anyways, thanks a lot for your reply. .

We are looking for notification functionality in which we can assign multiple Reference Objects to one notification.  In our service/repair business, customers want to return multiple products (materials), which may be different, to use for repair activities.  We use notifications for the service function.

How can this be supported?  Does enhancement OPS_QM_NOTIFICATION help to meeting this requirement?

Thanks in advance

In Assigned objects , even though it is at item level,we are able to enter only batch of main material at the QN header , not the batch of the item material , Is this the expected behaviour?

Hi Natalia,

we are using quality notifications to document blocking of batches. In a customer development several batches of the same material can be blocked in one step. Now, for each single batch a quality notification will be created. We have the idea to summarize these batches in one notification using screen area 840. Can you or your colleagues give me a hint how to manage this (writing several batches in screen area 840)? How can these entries be created within customer coding?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help.

Best regards

Dirk
Dear Natalia,

Thankyou for this wonderful post.

I am trying to update the assigned objects using a BAPI. I want to call the BAPI in a workflow.

The regular notification BAPI's (e.g. ALM_ME_NOTIFICATION_CHANGE or BAPI_QUALNOT_MODIFY_DATA) have items, causes, activities and tasks.

But nowhere can I find assigned objects for an item.

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Natalia,

Is there any function module if we need to update this with multiple records. For e.g I want to update multiple batch numbers to a quality notification through a program. Is there any way?

Thanks
