Update SAP Commerce with patch release while previous release is active

Hello Everyone,

We are updating SAP Commerce (Hybris) with patch release 2205.13 and we have 3 application servers that points to the same database. We are aiming to upgrade one server at a time, meaning that two of them will be available to avoid any user outage... Does anyone know if this is a safe choice?

More directly, we would like to know if the updatesystem command will break something in the non-upgraded servers while users are online?

There are some cases which may give errors. For example, in case of a new dynamic attribute added to an itemtype, if you execute updatesystem on one node while attribute handler is not available on other nodes, this will give you error on other nodes stating that the attribute handler is not available. Actually, this is possible not only for patch upgrade also for standard development process. I suggest you to read Rolling Update on the Cluster documentation, which will possibly meet your requirement. This is the behavior SAP does on CCV2 when performing rolling updates.
