what is a template in smartforms

can anybody expalin me about the use of template in smartforms. with some detailed description and usage of it

Hi,

To restrict the size of the cells of the table we use template. Otherwise if u use table based on the field value the size of the cell increases. The Template contains a fixed number of rows and columns, where the output is fixed.

These are used for data, which has to show total/subtotal data stored in variables and no Internal Tables attacted to it.

Template is Used to Display the data of a Text in a Table format ..

That means it cannot display the Data of internal table .

It is only used to display a set of Variables/texts in a Table form..i.e in different Rows/Cells.

HI,

Template in smartforms is static.

for example when you want to give heading for your table output , you can use templates..

MATNR WERKS -

1000 nl09 ---> this is a table.

1001 nl09

Both the Templates and Tables can be used for printing texts or application data in tabular format in Smartforms.

Templates: Templates are used in layouts when the number of rows are known and fixed.

Tables: Tables are used to print dynamic data, where the number of rows cannot be determined in advance.

template is used to display the static text for eg: headings for the tables ...etc

generally we use templates to display table headings .......

for eg: consider u have 10 records for vbeln .....so u want to display " sales document number " as the heading for that then u can go for templete .
