Hi.

I Doc [ intermediate document] is used transferring in /out in EDI environemnt [electronic transfer of messages, etc].During the electronic transmission, the idoc is understood by the external transmision medium. This is its strength.

Flat file is afile containing data copied /written over it.

hi vamsi,

idoc is a data container, that is used to exchange data between any two processes. Structure of an idoc contains one control record, many data record, many status record.

This data container carries the data from one system to other, where as flat file stores the data which are going to be uploaded into sap using one of the transfer method.

Hope u understood.

Arun.

hi

IDoc(Intermediate Document) is a data container which is used to transfer the data from SAP to SAP / Non-SAP Systems.

Flat File is for internal use only ie.You could read/write the data from/to the flat file.

But you cannot transfer the Flat File to other systems..

Also IDocs are saved in the SAP Database while Flat Files are not.

Cheers,

Hakim
