You can't use START-OF-SELECTION in type M programs since it's a report event (although you can create report programs which then turn to "module pools" by calling another screen - you can find that kind of programs when OO ALV is used). Module pools are driven by screen logic.

To use PARAMETERS inside module-pool, I suppose you can use this technique which works with SELECT-OPTIONS:

However, maybe it's simpler to use a normal field and attaching a search help in Screen painter.
