    Dear John,

to change the database platform and/or the operating system of your system you have to do a heterogenous system copy.

Basically this is done by unloading your system on the source platform (r3load) and afterwards loading the system on the new platform.

For a technical overview of the migration process please see this great document:

Heterogeneous ABAP System Copy - Technical Overview: http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-34258

You can find more detailed information on System Copy and Migration here:
    http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-8324

Please keep in mind, that the migration for a productive landscape has to be attended by an "SAP Certified Technology Consultant for OS/DB Migration"

    Best regards

    Sascha

    Hi John,

Extending the information suggested by Sascha, the actual strategy will depend on the SAP solutions deployed in your landscape and what is the existing version of the same.

    For example:

    1) Incase your system is non-unicode, during this migration you may convert your system to unicode as well.

    2) Are you looking for a MSCS setup on target environment ?In case yes, then you may need to follow guidelines for MSCS setup and look for all the pre-requisites.

    3) Which MSSQL version you plan to migrate ? As compatibility of SAP solutions on database needs to be checked.

    Hope this helps.
