Change 7.31 Portal UME

When I go into the configuration are of Identity Management in an attempt to change the data source for my UME, the only option available to me is ABAP system.  We have been using ABAP as the UME for a while now and I need to change this in order to perform a test.  Does anyone know why this may be the case?  And can I change this to use the Java stack's UME?

See SAP note 718383 for supported changes. No, you can't change from ABAP to DB. Technically you could but it's not supported meaning you could run into a number of problems. There are many discussions on the topic here on SCN, use search to locate them.
