Documenting a multiprovider

I am documenting the multiprovider/infocube and the whole data flow process leading upto it, but im planing on using online documentation instead of using the traditonal visio, word and excel documents.

My target users are query designers and  business users. Could someone please give me an example of how to add a suitable business description along with their technical details keeping in consideration the emphasis that are to be given on keyfigures and characteristics making it easy for the query designer to design the queries.

Hi Tms Joshi,

Please look into the capabilities of the DataFlow documentation -

You can save the data flow documentation - as the basis for your project documentation as an HTML file. More information: Saving Data Flow Documentation as an HTML File

Here you can add your own documentation, description as well!

If you do not have 'DataFlow' object, you can create one very easily - from the display dataflow you can generate (save) the DataFlow object - that provides you the option of adding your own documentations, description and saving as HTML file.

When changes occur to objects in the data flow you need to refresh the DataFlow objects, adjust the documentation and save it again.

It is a great feature with BW 7.3 SP8 - and does not require HANA.

Gabor

Hi,

For the data flow, please use the option display data flow from the multiprovider. For the technical details in the transformation go to the transformation and use tabular display (export to excel). For query documentation, use the option technical information from RSRT.

For BW (BEx) query documentation you can use transaction RSRTQ as well.

Dear TMS, Documenting a dataflow within GUI itself does not do associations w/datasource & relations, which proves it ineffective for business cases rather considering over technical know-how. But I am not sure if you have a specific concern w/SAP BW? Viz, the table RSOSFIELDMAP will contain the mappings to Infoobjects as there will be an associated transfer structures. Table RSDSSEGFD contains RSDS datasources and the asscoiated field names. If there is any such need you can always lookup via the Metadata repository. Hope this helps http://scn.sap.com/thread/1279349. Regards, Arun Bala

Dear Mr. Arun Bala,

Thank you for your benign reply but its not documenting the data flow that is my issue it is adding the descriptive information along with the technical details that i am facing a hurdle in.

Let me emphasize my problem -

I have the technical details i.e the multiproviders, infocubes, DSO's etc(all of them already documented) but i have to add some descriptive information(explaining the keyfigures, characteristics etc) which would help the query designer in deciding the rows and columns.

I hope i have given you a better insight of the problem.

Best regards,

Tms Joshi
