WCM - Permits can be issue in two control rooms

Hello experts,

I have a little challenge or problem that you maybe can give me a little feedback on.

The issue is that we on some plants have two control rooms that must be able to issue PTW.

One control room is taking care of Permits on primary components on the Power Plant and the other is taking care of Permits for work carried out on harbour and fuel handling department.

We cannot uniquely in all cases specify on the functional location whether it is one or the other control room that have to issue the work permits - so this is a decision taken by the scheduler.

How can we do this - any good idea?

Keld - What I understand from your requirement is, You have two control rooms and that are mapped as Functional location in sap. When you want to carry out maintenance you want to isolate one functional location out of two. However in some cases it is not clear which room to be isolated. Is that correct?

If YES ..then it will be depends on for which equipment you are carrying out maintenance and where that equipment is install.

If NO ..Please elaborate your query. Thanks.

    • Greetings Keld,

I like Yogesh Dhokne's suggestion re this, as this allows you to ensure that Control Room staff do not approve the Permit to Work that is assigned to the other Control Room, if you account for that in the roles.

However, please note the loophole that if the Authorization Group is not populated, neither Control Room will be blocked from accessing the WCA. Therefore, I am thinking that maybe you could define up to three Authorization groups -

      CR1 - Control Room 1

      CR2 - Control Room 2

TBD - CR to be determined

Then only add authorizations to CR1 & CR2 respectively to the Control Room roles. You could add authorization group TBD to the Functional Locations (& Equipments, if applicable), or the relevant CR1 / CR2 if the assignment of Control Room for that location is clear.

But the question I have is - Who determines which Control Room is relevant to the WCA? That role should have access to all the Authorization Groups to be able to assign them (as I understand you can't effectively default his from the FLs in all cases, because there are overlaps / gray areas)

Or another option for you would be to create separate Permits for the Control Rooms, and add them manually to the WCA (or again, default from technical object if the distinction is clear)

Also you can have the Authorization Group or Permit included in any selection variants the Control Rooms use in WCL5.

Define two different permit as per the control rooms. For first control room, select all the functional location of power plant in permit characteristics in first permit.

In second permit, select functional locations of harbour and fuel handling department, even you can maintain the equipment also in permit characteristics.

Whenever a order will be made on these functional location, respective permit will automatically appear on the order.

    • Hi Keld,

      1. Based on the usage of a WCA you can customize different type of work permits.

A new functionality so called "WCM Template Management" (already available with SAP ERP 6.0 EhP6 SP 8) Management will allow you to configure number ranges, descriptions, approval assignment, ... based on the usage.

      2. Dynamically approval process: You can automatically assign approvals based on the reference object:

For example, if you know that approval A is always needed for reference object Y,
you can define in Customizing that approval A is assigned automatically to WCM
objects with reference object Y when you set status PREP (Prepared) for the WCM object.

      Regards, Uwe
