10.5 for SAP - benefits ?

Looks promising :

http://ibmdatamag.com/2013/04/super-analytics-super-easy

But which of those new features will be available to SAP applications ?

Adaptive compression introduced in 10.1 allowed us to save ~ 50% of DB volume .... if 10.5 has better compression techniques it will be nice.

And when willl it be available for SAP customers more less ?

Regards

Marcin

    Hi Marcin,

The link below should give you features from 10.5 release. As of now availability date for 10.5 to customers is not yet announced. Only a preview of this new release has been published.

Marcin, I think what you are asking is a thought that not a few of us out there are making... then again, that question also applies to IBM and it´s Netezza product line. At least on paper, DB2 10.5 makes Netezza a bit of a redundant stack of products.

I wonder how SAP customers will be able/allowed to use the new BLU Acceleration features?

As stated on the IBM homepage, the DB2 Advanced Enterprise Server Edition is needed for BLU, but normally SAP customers get online the DB2 Enterprise Server Edition.

    Note 1851853 - DB6: Using DB2 10.5 with SAP Applications

Column organized tables with BLU Acceleration

Column-organized tables add columnar capabilities to DB2 databases. Data is stored with column organization, allowing vector processing of column data. This table format is aimed at providing performance improvements for OLAP workloads.

The use of column organized tables is currently not allowed with SAP applications. The use of column organized tables with SAP NetWeaver BW is currently under investigation.
