Former Member

Hi Gurus,

What is the difference between EH&S functionality in GUI vs Portal ?

Portal uses new extension component EHSM, but if I look at config nodes they are different in IMG.

If I have basic data tools in EH&S but not in EHSM, I cannot use them in portal ?

I am a newbie .. please help.

Dear Devi

you can not compare SAP EH&S classic with SAP EHS Component Extenstion (called EHSM).

In this FORUM you will some threads related EHSM (e.g. regarding potential migration scnareio or how is SAP EH&S related to SAP EHSM). Recent version 3.0; actually in ramp up to my knowledge is explained here:

http://help.sap.com/ehs-comp

SAP EHSM does have a different user group. It is related to "Incident Management" and "Risk Management" and not to e.g. SAP EH&S DG, SAP EH&S PS etc. Therefore to my knowlegde: there are no "Basic Data tools" in IMG related to this EHSM solution as with SAP EH&S.

Thanks Chris.

So, if I have to use specification management, I HAVE to config/use EHS 'Basic Data and Tools' in IMG and provide access for users via Portal 'Recipe Development' tab ? Since I could not find specifications in 'Health and Safety' service map link.

Also, specifications config I found in 2 places  in IMG - Logistics General > PLM > EHS and IMG > EH&S. Are they similar ?

thanks in advance.

Dear Devi

I believe we are still not aligned.

Classic SAP EH&S: here you have ony access using SAP GUI: here you need to prepare core EH&S customizing (like phrases, regarding specifciations etc.). This part belongs to SAP EH&S BD (Basic Data and tools) (refer to e.g:

http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_06/helpdata/en/a5/3adda043be11d188fe0000e8322f96/frameset.htm

Subchapter: EHS-BD, EHS-SAF, EHS-DGP and sometimes EHS-HSM are used wihtin companies. Sometimes you find implementations regarding: EHS-IHS; but rareky regarding EHS-WA, EHS-HEA.

Using classic EH&S e.g

- generation of safety data sheet is supported

- dangerous goods management

- hazardous substance management etc.

The component extensions are dedicated to "risk" and "incident" management only

Regarding Recipe: this  is a different story. Recipe is part of SAP PLM.

Refer to e.g.:

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_recipe21/helpdata/en/60/ee1a3a0792a622e10000000a114084/content.htm

or to:

http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_05/helpdata/en/80/b9a24043094e9d9a65295ef1271912/frameset.htm

IMG tu be used is different.

May be explain you business case better.

Hi Christopher,

This is really a valuable information for those who are new into SAP EHS practice. Even I was a bit confused in understanding the different functionality offered by SAP in EHS and EHSM.

As per my understanding, the EHSM is exclusively for Incident and Risk Management. For the other sub modules like PS/DGP/WA etc... we require EHS which in fact is accessed via GUI.

Could you please specify how the companies go between opting EHS and EHSM?  For example, the customer wants IHS and OH to be implemented..and if thats the requirement, we should for for the conventional EHS-IHS/OH or EHSM solution?

Also, I've read in some thread that EHSM require a separate license. Is that true?

Thanks,

Chris.

regarding:

The answer depends on the situation of the company.  If you did not use the "Incident / Risk Management" classic the EHSM solution might be better to use direct. Therefore: no clear answer possible.

Regarding Migration: The topic of migration has been discussed as well here. There are options. Personally I have no experience with the options.

License: to complexe topic. Sorry. The situation depends on your "history." If you would start EHS/EHSM from scratch the answer is easier. The EHSM license contains "all" (EHS and EHSM).

Hello experts

I am starting a study on the EH&SM and the difference of the classic EH&S and would like to know if any of you have some material configuration they can share with me or any link where to find this material.

Dear Allesandra

you can not compare "really" EHS classic and Componenbt Extension for SAP EHS Management. The topic has discussed very often. Actually no "overview documenT" or blog or what so ever other type of document is available to get on high level a list of "functions" which are supported by EHS classic or the component extension (e.g. refer to Which informations are of interest in EHS community?)

On high level there is high probablity if company is using EHS classic that not all of the available submodules are used. The same might be true for the component extension solution.

On high level: just compare online help. the difference is really big between both solutions. Mainly in the "Risk" / "Incident" and "Compliance" aspects major overlap exists (pay attention: Component Extension 5.0 is still announced (ram up phase).)

EHS classic: Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) - SAP Library

Component Extension: Component Extension 4.0 for SAP EHS Management – SAP Help Portal Page

Hi Devi,

EHS is the old and existing solution from SAP. There is no seperate licence required, it is part of ECC. It deals with

  • Product safety
  • Dangerous Gooda Management
  • Hazardous substance Management
  • Industrial Hygiene and Safety
  • Occupational Health
  • Waste Management
  • Basic Data and Tools(to support the above sub modules)

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_ehs27b/helpdata/en/A5/3ADD4643BE11D188FE0000E8322F96/frameset.htm

EHSM (SAP EHS Management), is new solution from SAP. There is a seperate licence required for SAP EHSM. It is not part of ECC. This is SAP Netweaver portal based solution. EHSM deals with .....

  • Incident Management
  • Risk Assessment
  • Product Compliance

Typiccally SAP EHS and EHSM are diferent solutions from SAP to support differnt modules in SAP.

IHS is the component which falls in both SAP EHS and EHSM and it is going to be replaced by SAP EHSM - IM.( I dont know how far SAP Product Safety in SAP EHS is related to Product Compliance in SAP EHSM)

If you wants to start a new projetc in the area of EHS-IHS then you should take a look on EHSM.

SAP IHS classic (Industrial Hygiene and Safety) will get only bug fixes by SAP in the future. There will be no new functionality. The new and only tool which will be enhanced etc. in the future will be EHSM actually in
version 4.0

You will find some threads regarding EHSM here as well dealing with "migration" from EHS IHS classic to EHSM.

Dear Sagar

Component Extension for SAP EHS Management is an own software layer. It is actually an ad on to SAP ERP as mentioned by you. EHS started as well as an add on to SAP ERP. Now it is really part of SAP ERP. We can assume that in the future the same may happen regarding Component Extension. Discussion in different thread has shown that Version 5.0 will be available via Ramp Up soon. Actually roughly once a year a new version is released by SAP

License: if or of not a license for "Component Extension for SAP EHS Management" is requiered depends on your "history" with EHS. There is a lot of "confusing" discssion regarding this. The thread you mentioned tries to go "deeper" regarding the license topic. "Same" discussion e.g. here:
