SWPM installation time Solaris versus SLES Linux

40 Views

Hello,

I have performed the following install of a Solman 7.1 with Oracle DB on two hosts-

The first host is:

Solaris Sparc T4 with T4 CMT processors at 2848 MHz

Memory=256 GB

CPU/CORE/Virtual Processor=2/16/128

The second host is:

VmWare SLES

Memory:20 GB reserved and limited to 24 GB

Processor: Intel Xeon X5650 2.67 GHz / Limited to 8 virtual CPU=4 hyperthreaded cores

I would have expected the faster machine to be the Solaris box as it has more power.

The results are:

1. SLES install time: 3.5 hours

2. Solaris without zfs snapshots during the install: 6.5 hours

3. Solaris with hourly zfs snapshot during the install: 7 hours

Would you know why the installation times are so different?

Thanks in advance for your answers.
