Hey Community,

is it possible to run a SAP System (Basis 701 "SAP EHP 1 for SAP NetWeaver 7.0") with a 720 or 721 Kernel?

Or is it better to run it on it on a 701 Kernel?

At the Moment we have a really old kernel in our System. So i want to Change it..

kernel release 701 patch number 117

Thanks for your help.

Regards

Hi Bjoern,

Refer SAP note

1633731Usage of the 7.20 Downward-Compatible Kernel

It is good to have latest kernel with your SAP system. Also there are no major developments happeninng on older kernel versions and SAP suggests customers to move to 720 kernel

Thanks,

i`ve seen that we also have an old Oracle Instant Client 10.2.0.4 which is no more supportet by SAP.

So it is better to go to Instant Client 11.2...

Do i have to install the Oracle Client BEFORE or AFTER the new kernel?

Or in other way... is it ok to Keep the Instant Client 10.2.0.4 and only Upgrade the kernel to 720? Do the kernel 720 work with the old Instant Client?

Hi Bjoern,

Oracle client version will depend on what is your Oracle database verison. Incase your database version is 11g it is recommended to upgrade the client to 11.2

Kernel upgrade and Oracle client upgrade are independent activities . SAP kernel 720 can definitely work with old instant client as your database can work with old instant client.

Hope this helps.
