System Copy non Unicode with Software Provisioning Manger, wrong kernel-dvd

Former Member

Hi Experts,

we are facing the following problem, during a non-Unicode Systemcopy of an NW70EHP2 Abap System.

The System has been upgraded to SAP NW70EHP2 as Non-Unicode.

We want to perform a homogeneous system copy on Windwos - MSSQL with Backup/Restore to build up a Testsystem.

the Problem is: after delselect the Option for "Unicode System" in SPM (1.0SP06) (Lifesycle Option/Systemcopy/....) it asket later for the Unicode Kernel DVD, but as we perfom a system copy for non unicode system.

Systemcopy it must be the Non-Unicode kernel DVD!

We use the kernel-DVD mentioned by OSS-Note:1680045 Kernel:51045213_3 Non-Unicode X86

ErroeMessage from SPM (sapinst):

You entered: E:\SAPCDS\KERNEL_NUC_NW720\51045213_3\Kernel_7.20_WIN__IA32__IA64__x64__ Found the label

SAP:AKK:720:DVD_KERNEL:SAP Kernel 720:Dxxxxxxxx:*:D51045213 but need the label SAP:AKK:72:UKERNEL:*:WINDOWS_X86_64😘

Any suggestion how we can solve this issue, pls ;-)?

Hi,

Please confirm whether you have selected Unicode or non-Unicode in the initial screen of system copy.

As well as please let us know you are using the SAP installation master correct one.

Thanks and Regards,

If possible, can you please attach the first screen of your SAP Installation Master too

Hi Vlmal,

thx for the very fast response ;-)!

I selected non-Unicode by deslecting the unicode option in the SPM1.0SP06.

I performed the non-unicode systemcopy with the spm1.0 tool.

the DVD`are:

SPM1.0SP06 70SWPM10_6-20009707

Kernel: 51045213_3

Master:51043745_2

After your respones i tested the non-unicode homegenoes systemcopy with the master dvd instead of the SPM1.0SP06 now. And now it takes the right non-Unicode Kernel-DVD and ask´s for the right on. So, with the master dvd 51043745_2 it seems it will work.

here are the screenshots:

System Copy with the Master - work

option for SPM

lg & thx

Hi,

   I suspect the same..

Please continue with the master DVD rather than  using SWPM...

Sometimes, it could also due to be bug in SWPM also.. Not sure... But COULD BE.

Please proceed with Master DVD and continue.

Thanks and Regards,

Vimal

Hi,

I have seem this before using SWPM and what I do is to select  700 or 720 SL Controller (according to the Kernel version you are using) and then the installation continues. This is a bug in SWPM but after you pass this then you can go on and finish the instalation.

Hi Alberto,

In fact this is not a Bug of the tool. As I mentioned in my reply, SWPM expects the 4 parts of the kernel. It is described in the SAP note below:

#1654937 - How to correctly build the SAP Netweaver Kernel Media

Thanks for your understanding.

I'm confused.

We have a Netweaver 7.0 sr3 system running on Windows 2003/SQL 2005 non-Unicode.  We have installed a windows 2012/SQL 2012 server without SAP. We want an identical system on the new server with the new OS and the new DB. In the past, we did a SAP install with non-Unicode  on the new server to an empty DB, then a system copy from another system with the full db.

I tried this here using SWPM. I was not able to select a non-Unicode kernel using SWPM. That option was greyed out. I saw another reference that the only way around this was to do a system copy only instead of an install then a db copy.

Are you saying that I can replace the SWPM kernel with a non-Unicode kernel using note 1654937?

Hi Carl,

It is not possible to install a fresh non-Unicode system anymore since the SAP NetWeaver 7.01 was released. SAP do not recommend anymore installations of non-Unicode systems, then it is not possible to be done anymore. The only way to have a non-Unicode system is doing a system copy of another non-Unicode system.

The SAP note #1654937 only points that you must download all the 4 parts of the SAP kenrnel to use during an installation/system copy using SWPM.

Got it, I thougth it was a Bug but after reading the note I see this is intentional as we should create the complete kernel in a Directory, thanks for sharing that info.

Hello Julius-Peter,

Do not use the old installation master media, as according SAP note below, it cannot be used anymore since the SWPM was released:

#1589311 - Replacements of outdated tools via SL Toolset

In fact the SWPM asks for the unicode part of the kernel because when you perform a fresh installation and or target system installation during the system copy, the SAP Kernel 720 that needs to be used has 4 parts as described by SAP note below:

#1654937 - How to correctly build the SAP Netweaver Kernel Media

Download the 4 parts of the SAP Kernel in the SAP Marketplace and mount as described by SAP note #1654937 (Unicode, Non-Unicode, SL Controller 720 and SL Controller 700).

The correct SAP Kernel media you need to use with SWPM is described in the SAP note:

#1680045 - Release Note for Software Provisioning Manager 1.0

If you face any issue during the system copy using an old Installation Master media, SAP will ask you to use the SWPM, as the old medias should not be used anymore.

Thanks for your understanding.

Hello Henrique,

thx for the response, i will try this as you mentioned. systemcopy´s and installations with non-unicode systems are always a little bit tricky.

Hello Henrique,

is there a way to build up a fresh installed non-Unicode System for System-copy (backup/restore) Tasks?

is the only way to do this with exp/imp and creating a db-image. because when i'am try to install a non-Unicode System there is no way to do it as non-Unicode ( zb. ECC60....)

Hi Julius-Peter,

The only way to create a non-Unicode system during a backup/restore procedure is doing a system copy using SWPM. During the target system installation, you will be able to choose the option to create a non-Unicode system. Then you will be able to restore your data during the database instance installation (it is a step of the target system installation).

I would recommend you to follow the section Database-Specific System Copy in the system copy. It will explain you how to perform the system copy using the backup/restore procedure.

You can find the guides at:

http://www.service.sap.com/sltoolset ->

Software Logistic Toolset 1.0 ->

[Scroll down the page] Software Provisioning Manager ->

Copying Systems Based on NW 7.0 / 7.0 EHPs-SW Prov. Mgr. 1.0

I believe it will help you to restore your data and also create a non-Unicode system. Otherwise please let me know.

Thanks for your understanding.
