Moving database and configuration from 8.82 to 9.0 PL2

Former Member

Hello All,

Environment:

I recently installed SAP Business One 9.0 PL2 with SQL Server 2012 Express and Win 2008 R2. I have a development / test machine which is configured on another server with SAP Business One 8.8x, SQL Server 2008 Express and Win 2008 R2.

Query:

I want to copy 2 companies with their databases and configurations from SAP Business One 8.8x to 9.0 PL2. Is it possible to do so? If so, would appreciate guidance.

Options tried:

I have tried joining / connecting to company on B1 8.8x from B1 9 and it gave me an error for version difference.

I've also tried backing up 8.8x db and restoring it in B1 9 but I got the same error when logging in. No luck.

Need help.

Regards,

Dhairya

Hello Dhairya Mistry,

Kennedy T is correct. You need to back up your 8.82 Databases, restore them in the SQL 2012 Server. Then upgrade the DB's using SAP Business One 9.0 Upgrader. Please check which patch level you can upgrade from with your upgrader. So far PL 04 can upgrade all 8.82 versions, I suggest you use that.

You do not need to copy anything as the Database will be fully upgraded including existing data.

Hi,

You can Copy Express to target Database, then upgrade to SAP B1 9.0. Or Upgrade Base Database then Copy Express.

You cna not Copy from a lower version to higher version because have alot of field have not created.

Thanks.

Hi,

Please refer SAP notes for upgrading:

1796046 - Overview Note for SAP Business One 9.0 PL02

May be helpful for upgrading not for copying.

Vamasi: I have tried backing up 8.82 db and restoring in 9.0 db but that does not work. After copying SAP B1 9.0 gives an error for mismatch in version.

Kennedy: As I have mentioned earlier, I need to keep old copy as it is as we are doing testing on both platforms. What I want to do is keep 8.82 as it is and copy the database and company config to 9.0.

Is there a way to make 8.82 company database either work directly with 9.0 or upgrade database and related settings to work with 9.0?

Any help is appreciated.

Hi,

In order to use Copy Express, you have to upgrade the copy of your 8.82 company to 9.0. It is not possible to copy between 2 versions.

Thanks,

Gordon

Hi Gordon,

Does that mean there are not other ways to copy the database and settings of 8.82 to 9.0? The only way you can do is by manually re-configuring the 9.0 system.

Thanks,

Dhairya

HI Dhairya Mistry...

Yes you are correct....  But other way you can try

1.Take a backup of your 8.82 system

2. Restore a backup in the testing environment

3. Upgrade the 8.82 system to sap 9.pl 02

4. After upgrade you use copy express to copy the settings and delete the upgraded system...

Hope Helpful

That is not what I said. You have to restore your 8.82 to another db and upgrade it to 9.0 to use Copy Express.

Almost people suggested solution like this but as he said "there is no copy express in 9.0"

Is he correct??

Thanks

Hi Dhairya Mistry,

You can Try using Copy Express or Take a Back up of the OLD DB and Restore it in the new server and upgrade DB to sbo 9 from sbo 8.

Hi,

Can I know the purpose of moving database?

Use copy express for copying database.

I do not want to move. I want to copy the database and settings of company. There is a requirement of a custom development and for which I have to evaluate both platforms. I have on one platform and it would be beneficial to copy the settings and DB so it gives same copy and manual errors can be reduced.

I have tried copy express but there is no copy express in 9.0. Also I know how to copy database but not sure how to get the XML file from source and where to put in the target. I am new to SAP Business One. All help is very much appreciated.

Thanks
