Bex Analyzer installation and Excel 2010 security options

Former Member

Dear all.

I'm installing Bex Analyzer 7.3 with the latest packages available on the market place and the Bex toolbox is not working at all.

Here is my config :

Win7 Enterprise

Office 2010

SAPGui 7.3 FEP 3

BexAnalyzer 7.3 SP 201

In fact my company has set the Excel security options in such a way that the "Trust access to the VBA project object model" is grayed out unticked.

It seems to cause the Bex toolbar issue because the Add in is not able to install correctly.

I'm sure we are not the only one having set this security option like this.

Do you know if there's a way to install correctly the Bex with the option unticked ?

Thank in advance for your help.

Emmanuel

Hi,

please follow note 1437575 and get the trace file. My problem is similar to yours. When I click open button, it has no responding. My trace file shows BExAnalyzer.xla under directory C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\SAP Shared\BW is not trusted by Office Excel, so I added it as a Trusted Location into Excel in Trust Center, so the problem is ok.

Have a try.

Hi Experts,

i'am facing the same problem.

the bex anlayzer toolbox is not working after installing the latest patches for bi frontend sp200!

And i get this errormessage to:

Environment:

Windows 7 Professional

Office 2010

MS Net 4.5

SAP GUI 7.30 SP3

SAP_BW 702 SP11

the bex analyzer only worked as i let it unpatched, or with patch BI730SP01_100*.

When we install the latest BI Frontendpatch, the bex analyzer is not working correctly.

I would really appreciate some help solving this problem with the bex tool.

Hi Emmanuel,

Can you please apply BI 7.0 ADDON FOR SAP GUI 7.30 Patch Level 100 and check whether it helps you.

Did you mean that you have unticked the option for "Trust access to VBA project object model"?

Please also refer the following note only with regard to the option "Trust access to VBA project object model":

1712264 - BExAnalyzer: On Refresh the BEx dispaly VB project failed

Thanks & Regards,

Sapna

Hi Sapna.

Thanks a lot for your reply.

At least, with this OSS note 1712264 I know now that this Excel option is mandatory.

I finally got this option ticked. But I still have the same problem : The Bex Toolbar is not working.

I've also installed all the latests packages available, so I don't know what else to do.

Could you please help me ?

Thanks

Hi Arvind.

Thank you for your answer, but this OSS does not apply to my configuration.

I'm installing GUI 7.30 on Win 7 and Office 2010.

Dear Emmanuel,

The Note is valid for GUI 7.30 as well,

The issue is normally occurs after Patch upgrade or GUI upgrade. Can you please follow the steps and

check. This should solve your issue.

Dear Arvind.

I went through all the steps of this note.

Solution 1: Not applicable

Solution 2: Running BexInstaller.exe has no effect

Solution 3: No log displayed in the EventViewer

Solution 4: Not applicable, I'm already running Excel 2010

Solution 5: Even if this config file is for Excel 2007 I tried, with no effect

Solution 6: I found several entries for BexConnect and all were pointing to the good directory

I'm sorry to bother you, but I'm completely lost. I already uninstall and reinstall everything with no change.

One strange thing. I've tried to install manually the BexAnalyzer addin to Excel. When I run Bex Analyzer, no change, but when I just open Excel, I can see the Addin tab and the toolbar is working correctly....until I try to change a workbook in Design mode. I receive a macro error message.

I also tried to run the sapbexc.xla to identify what's going wrong with my installation. Sadly even this xla is not processed correctly. I get a message telling that this is not a valid version of the file.

Please help...

Thanks

Hi Emmanuel,

What exactly issue you face? Is the Addin toolbar not responing on click? Or you just donot see the Add-in when you open BEx Analyzer?

Hi Arvind.

In fact, I can see the toolbar but it is not responding on click.

It's like if the add-in was not correctly installed.

Here is what I have.

When I run Bex Analyzer :

When I run only Excel (I manually add the add-in):

In the first case, the toolbar is not reacting.

In the second case, it works but further action on a workbook fail due to missing macros.

Thanks

Dear Emanuel,

I saw the first screenshot, help Question mark is in Blue color, this is clear example of

inactive toolbar.,

We have an internal wiki which clearly describe this issue and solution.

Please refer to below link  "2 - Prerequisite" section.

Hi Arvind.

First, thank you for the time you spend on my problem. I really appreciate.

I read the document you sent. I've already the latest packages and patches, so nothing new on that side.

But I've a problem when I want to run the Installation Check report (sapbexc.xla).

It doesn't work. I receive this error :

So I cannot see what is wrong in my local installation.

I always come back to the same OSS note which do not solve anything.

Best regards

Hi Emmanuel,

Please try this option.

Give full control to these folders (or where SAP has been installed).

C:\Program Files\SAP\Business Explorer

C:\Program Files\SAP\FrontEnd\Bw

Sometimes it happens since user which has logged in, his excel application cannot access these folders from where the BEx Analyzer is functional.

Dear Arvind, Mohamed.

I've made a clean uninstall.

I've reinstalled everything, with a restart between each steps.

I've also checked the access rights to the Bex folders.

Sadly, I still have the same issue. No change since the last time.

It probably comes from Excel security options my company has applied, but so far I'm not able to see which one is causing my problems.

Any other idea ?

Best regards

Hi Emmanuel

Have you been able to find a resolution.

I am encoutering a similar issue.

Win7 Enterprise

Office 2010

SAPGui 7.3 Final Release

BexAnalyzer 7.3 SP 5

When launching a BEx report from the Easy Access Menu, an instance of Excel is opened but there is no connection to BW. The plugs are are, however the Help button is yellow.

The Excel macro setting is set to High and a digital signature is required to run macros.

If I 'force' the connection to BW, I can open a query , enable macros and then refresh the query, however I should not have to do this. Surely there are other users out there that are using this configuration without issue.

Can anyone help further?

Hi Emmanuel,

Please try logging in with admin rights for once and then try opening it. Local Admin would agree to it as you would be doing under their supervision.

Let us know if this works.

Hi Emmanuel

It would appear that my immediate problem was rectified by updating the 730 SAPGUI to patch level 3.

In the process I was also given a link to the following wiki page

http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/x/1IDzEg

and to particularly look at the paragraph that starts "To establish the connection after the BexAnalyzer is launched, automatic logon to BW server is done with a help of a logon-ticket..."

and

"4 - Specific Issues"

I was also advised that if the issue still persists, answer the 15 questions in the WIKI page and send the message back to SAP.

I hope this is of some assistance.

Regards

Sean

I should also have added that while my immediate connection issue has been resolved, I have now found that some BEx Analyser reports launch without issue from the menu, others immediately prompt to be saved before closing. The BEx custon toolbar does not appear for these reports, but does for others??
