Our is a winforms application developed in vb.net and we extensively use crystal reports in the application. When trying to view the a report it displays extrace between period . For example it displays as "book  ." If i save the report as pdf I dont see this issue . I have tried adding the app.config file following one of the posts  but not successful can some one please help me out on this ?

Thanks in Advance,

Hi Prathima,

Though your question describes the issue but lacks the basic information, please provide & try following to help u further:

  1. The earlier version of CR & it's patch level before migration?
  2. What is the patch level of CR 2008 now?
  3. Do u see the same issue in CR designer?
  4. Try x86 instead of Any CPU as a Target Platform for building & compiling
  5. If you are not on the latest patch install it from here and then try.

Moreover please don't post your question on multiple threads. Like you have done here:

http://scn.sap.com/thread/1732384

Hope it helps!!!

Hi Saurabh,

The earlier version of CR is 10 and patch level is 10.0.9500.23 not sure if it is correct am new to this patching. Patch level of CR 2008 is 12.3.1100.601. The data cannot be view in CR designer as they are database fields we are using some functions to display data only if some conditions are true. The Target platform is set to x86 so this option is ruled out.

Thanks in Advance,

Prathima

Try downloading SP5 from  here. Try to export the report as crystal report and then open the same in designer and check if you see the same issue,

HI Saurabh,

Cannot this be done without patching anything programmatically will help at this stage otherwise i need to redistribute the crystal reports dlls (runtime)again to end users .

The answer is; no it can not be done. The days of just copying dlls here and there are long gone. You must redeploy the runtime. The links to the runtime files are now here:

MSI

MSM ftp container is being created now - I'll update this thread once it is complete.

I'd like you to attach the report here - with saved data so I can have a look. To attach the report, rename it to *.txt and attach. Do not zip, the system will zip up the txt on it's own

I ran the report, but it has no data, so I don't see much:

Hi Ludek,

The report has many pages. Can you go to next page ? Then you can see the spaces .

Thanks,

Prathima

Nope. See the screenshot from the designer - the paging arrows are not enabled, thus no more than the 1st page...

Hi Ludek,

The fields which are not getting displayed are the database fields. You cannot see them in designer .

Thanks,

Prathima

Please explain? Why would fields in a database not display in the CR designer?

BTW., I do not see anything different in a .NET app...

Hi Ludek,

Please ignore the above message. When I exported the report from my .net application and saved it as .rpt format i could not see the extra space before period and apostle but when i preview it from .net application i am able to see the extra space. This is what needs to be rectified.I am attaching you the saved rpt file for your reference.

Thanks,

Prathima

Interesting. I tried other fonts; Arial, Times New Roman, Calibri. The results:

Calibri works just fine.

Arial and Times New Roman also show the space - at 100% zoom. The interesting part is that at a 150% zoom, the space disappears. Ditto Franklin Gothic Book font. I suspect there is an issue between CR and GDI+ as regards the rendering, though I am somewhat hesitant as this is the 1st time I remember seeing this in a WIN app. Thus a small test I'd like yuo to do for me. See this wiki on troubleshooting issues with datasets. Please follow the steps outlined in the wiki and let me know the results.

Hello Prathima

I think we're looking at a but here that I will escalate for a fix next week. Just to set up expectations. If this is accepted by R&D for a fix, at best we'd get it in Service Pack 7 which is due out mid September. At this time, the only work-around I have is to use a different font. In my testing Calibri worked fine...
