Error in EXTRACTKRN_PRE

Former Member

Hi!

I'm currently upgrading our SAP R/3 Enterprise 4.70 Ext. Set 1.10 to Extension Set 2.00 SR1 in preparation for our MSS requirements.

I keep on getting this error in the Parameter Input module:

ERROR: Extraction of D:\NT\I386\SAPEXE.SAR to directory e:\usr\sap\put\exe failed. Check log file CAR.ECO for error message.

This error occurs during the EXTRACTKRN_PRE phase. I went thru the procedures recommended in SAP Note 741249. Still same error.

Please help.

Hi Erik,

Can you extract sapexe.sar file manually and copy the files in run/put folder.

Hi Anand,

Thank you for your reply. Have you tried this personally? How was it?

Hi Erik,

I tried for the same for J2EE. It worked. So this should also work. The error is also same for that.

Do you think Upgrade Assistant (a tool) will recognize that it had successfully extracted SAPEXE.SAR?

With J2EE, did you use any tool in assisting you with the installation? Was it able to recognize that step even you did some manual interventions?

Hi Erik,

Yes, Upgrade Assistant should recognize the manual interventsions?

Hi Anand,

I tried extracting SAPEXE.SAR using SAPCAR. It extracted some files, but when it reached SAPCAR.EXE, an error occurred:

SAPCAR: could not open for writing sapcar.exe (error 28).

ess the file because it is being used by another process.

Please help.

Problem solved! Check out SAP Note 637683

For Windows only: Unpacking SAPEXE.SAR terminates

The PREPARE terminates with the following error message:

R3up> ERROR: Extraction of *\NT\I386\SAPEXE.SAR to directory *\usr

\put\exe failed.

The error occurs because the UnInstSAP.EXE file in the \put directory is write-protected.

Remove the write protection and start PREPARE from the \put\exe directory with the repeat option.
