create the process chain

Hi all,

Can someone tell me if my steps are correct for creating the process chain for uploading from ODS into the cube.

Here are steps that I did:

1. created the 'full load' infopackage in the infosource for uploading from the Infosource into the ODS.

2. right click on ODS and select 'update ODS Data in Data Target' to upload into the cube (select 'init load').

3. create another 'full load' infopackage in the infosource and use it to create the process chain by pressing the 'process chain maintenance'.

Thank you.

Hi,

if that is the case then u have to replicate ur data sources for ur BW system.

right click on ur BW sosurce system and then select the replicate data sources. later u will find ur data sources.

check it and let me know the details-

MM,

I have replicated the datasource in the BW system but I still didn't see the infosource- 8xxxxx? Can you tell me if I need to create one infosource to assign this datasource? Why I still cannot find it?

One more question-- Can I create 'delta load' for the update from the ODS into the Cube right away after I ran the 'init load' if I right click on the 'update ODS to the datatarget'? It seems that I have to do the delta load next day after I created the init load. If I am right, please correct me. I try to clear some doubts. Thank you.

Hi john,

If you dont find the generated datasource, click on Setting-> Display generated Object -> Show generated ODS object in RSA1. This will show all the generated objects.

Yeah you have to create one infosource and then assign this datasource into the infosource.

You can create delta loads from the update from the ODS into the cube. First you run the init and then can create one more IP for delta or you can change the same IP. You need not right click and Update ODS to data targets but you have to schedule the delta IP. First day you run the init and from next day onwards you can run the delta IP in chain.

I hope i have cleared ur doubts.. if so pls assign soe points

Hi Sriram,

Thank you for resolving my doubt that the 'init load' and 'delta load' cannot be done in the same day.

Can you also answer me these few qustions?

1. If I have to create one infosource to assign the datasource 8xxxx,then how can I see it in the infosource list when I click on 'show generated ODS object before I create the infosource? Please explain.

2.I did click on Setting-> Display generated Object -> Show generated ODS object in RSA1 but I still cannot see the infosource 8xxxxxx in the list. Why?

3. How can I schedule the delta IP if I don't right click on and select "Update ODS to data targets "? Can you clarifiy it? ( not sure if you mean to select 'generate export datasourc')

4.in you last sentence, you said: run the delta IP in chain; do you maean use the delta IP to create the process chain?

Thank you.

Hi john,

I will try to answer to my level best

1. Sorry if got confused with my previous post.. you cannot see the infosource when you say 'show generated ODS object'. Its for an IP which is used for the infosource with export datasource. Sorry for that. You have to create one new info source and then replicate your already created data source and assign it to the newly created infosource.

2. I think i have answered this question also in the first one.

3. Once you create an infosource, assign this infosource to export datasource (8xxxx), you have to create one IP. Then if you run this ip with init, it will initialise the delta and then you can go for delta. This will take care of loading data to the final data target. So executing this IP is as gud as Update the ODS data to final targets.

4.Yes. I mean use the "Execute infopackage" process type and maintain the delta IP as variant in your process chain. ( this works only if you have successfully run the init IP )

Hope i cleared your doubts.. If anything else, pls post it

Hi,

guess that u have created the Updaterules based on datasource [8XXXXX].

Goto Menu -> Settings->Display Generated Objects ->select Show generated ODS Objects. and then refresh ur screen.

guess u wil get ur infosource..

MM,

Do I need to create one infosource for assigning this datasource? I followed ur advices and still cannot find the infosource 8xxxx to create IP for running the process chain? Please help.

Thank you.

Hi John,

-Goto RSA1-> Infosources-> select ur info source i.e 8xxx[xxxx refers to ur ODS name] -> right click on the source system and select create Info package.

- create 2 IP's, one is for INIT and one is for Delta.

Hope it helps-

Hi MM,

I did right click on the ODS to generate external datasource and generate the updates rules for the cube (ther updates rules is 8xxxx for the cube now). However, I cannot find the infosource named 8xxxx in the infosource. Do you know what it can be the problem? Thank you.

Hi all,

Correct: it is export datasource not external datasource. Thank you.

Hi,

-after creating ur export data source for ur ODS, g and right click ur cube to create Update rules based on this export data source i.e 8ODSName.

- later u create an IP for that 8ODSNAME with init with delta and then load.

-and there after create a delta IP for that 8ODSNAME. which shud be used as a load process in the Process chain.

Use the delta IP in for ur ODS in the process chain but not the init IP.

Hope it will help u.

Hi MM,

Do you know where I can create IP for the 8ODSxxx with init with delta load? When you said: with init with delta and then loan, do you mean: one init load, one delta load?

Thank you very much for sharing ur experience

Hi John,

First this is that u initialize ur ODS with delta without going for full load. If u take full load into consideration then u have to do the repair full request. So first of all u initialize with delta for ODS. Later maintain export data source on ur ODS and give the name of ur Data source and then select 'update ODS Data in Data Target'. for updating the data to ur cube.

in process chain-

-use the Delat infopackage of ur ODS after the start process.

- after this include the Activation process for ur ODS.

-use the process called further process to update from ur ODS to ur cube or u can put seperate load process to update the data to ur Cube.

Hope it helps-

Hi John,

The better option to load data from ODS to cube is to create an export datasource and then upload. So i will brief the stpes involved for that.

1. Ofcourse load ur first ODS with the stpes u have mentioned.

2. create an Export datasource for this ODS. ( Right click on the ODS and generate export datasource )

3. For your infosource, assign this datasource and for ur cube, create an update rule with this infosource.

4. For the first time loading cube, create an IP for the above said infosource with Init option and load.

5. Create a delta IP for the same infosource and add it in the process chain.

P.S: The option 'update ODS Data in Data Target' is not required in this case.

Sriram,

Can you clarify some of steps? I am not familiar with this process.

3. For your infosource, assign this datasource and for ur cube, create an update rule with this infosource. Do I need to create another infosource to assign this datasource? I have to create another update rule for it, right?

4. For the first time loading cube, create an IP for the above said infosource with Init option and load.

Where can I create IP for the infosource?

5. Create a delta IP for the same infosource and add it in the process chain. Where do I add IP in the process chain.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience.
