hi lynt,

The main purpose of portal is to provide a single point of access to information and services, which a portal user needs to fulfill his job. EP has a lot of features like , it facilitates SSO (single sign on), KM...etc

Most of the details regarding usage of portal can be obtained from Help.sap.com or from sdn.

otherwise here are a few links which can help you..

Hi Lynn,

Portal integrates collaboration, knowledge management, and relevant content. It unifies applications, information, and services as they are used by individuals both within and outside the organization.

It provides all types of enterprise information, including SAP and third-party business applications, databases and data warehouses, desktop documents and web content and services to improve the efficiency of people across the value chain. It provides users (for example, employees, suppliers, customers) with immediate and secure role-based access to critical information and applications across the extended enterprise. Pre-configured content includes role definitions and reports, and makes deployment easy.

The component-based nature of the SAP Enterprise Portal makes user-centric integration and collaboration possible. Portal content components provide "windows" into applications and data sources, and control the user's interaction with the application and data. When accessing the SAP Enterprise Portal, a user is presented with a set of content components relevant to the user's role. By reviewing the information presented, the user is quickly informed of the status of relevant tasks and activities. SAP Enterprise Portal also provides single sign-on to the suite of mySAP SRM components. This enables the user to utilize functionality and interact with data residing on different systems in a unified manner. As a result, the user quickly analyzes data, reaches conclusions, and takes the relevant actions. With the right information at hand the user, for example a professional purchaser, can begin a bidding process, perform additional analysis, discuss specifications, negotiate contracts, and place orders. The user performs all of these actions from within the SAP Enterprise Portal, with the ability to navigate between applications without having to log on multiple times.

Hi everyone. Thanks for the feedback. We will go through the links. Another question, all the message boxes appear very long. I have to scroll to the right and left again to read the messages. Why is it so?

Hi Lynn,

The answer to your question cannot be precisely put as Enterprise Portal can be used for umpteen number of applications. However to get a fair knowledge of where EP comes into play, please go thruough the following link, the online Portal Documentation provided by SAP.

This should help you get started.

Happy learning.

Best Regards
