BW Transformation instead of BPC Transformation File

Hi Gurus;

I could configurate a load from BW to BPC using a BW Transformation.

I did it because the standar way in BPC, using transformation file, use much time to load the transactional data.

Now I cannot change my security because It show a message "Exist BW transformation".

¿What other implications exists if I do not use the standar load in BPC?

Hi Laura,

I think that the most important implication is you'll have to change load/planning mode of BPC cube. At that time users won't be able to do any planning.

BPC last is mostly slower than BW not because of Transformation file, but because it loads data sequentially while BW can load packages in parallel. Since BPC 10 SP09 there is an option to enable parallel load, so speed should be comparable to BW.

Hi Laura,

Technically, there is no problem in creating transformations on top of BPC cubes. But there are lot implications. During the load, the BPC cube must be in load mode. So, during this time, no planning can be done. When the planning is to be done, the BPC cube must be in planning mode, so, no data loading can be done at this time.

When the BPC application is full optimized, there is a probability of the BPC cube's technical name to be changed. In this case, you will need to re-activate the transformation rules. This might be the case during your transports also.

As a better practice, usually, we create a BW cube with the same structure as BPC and the same master data. We load the data into this BW cube using transformation rules. Then use the BPC DM package to load the data from this BW cube to your BPC application. You wont require any conversion file and a straightforward transformation file; since all the transformations would have been taken care while loading the data into this BW cube.

Hope this helps.
