Dear all,

Thanks
Hi SAP Basis,
I have faced this issue in a lot of SAP Installations.
The reason for this is, that old SAP Solutions (By old i mean to say SAP Kernel 700 or kernels which are not 720 or likewise) you will have to use Oracle Client 10.2 only. You can not use Oracle Client 11 for that matter, however you can use Oracle 11g RDBMS but not oracle client 11.
So the sequence for installation is that, you provide the required Oracle 10g Client media, complete the installation and then later on manually upgrade the oracle Client to 11.
Let me know, if you face any further issues.

Yes. You are correct. You need to use oracle 10.2 and later you can upgrade to 11.2
You wont face any inconsistencies due to this upgrade.
Please refer the Note 998004 - Update the Oracle Instant Client on Windows on how to update your oracle client.
Please check and provide your feedback.
Hi,
Yes as far as we are talking about Oracle Client, you should provide media for Oracle 10.2 Client and upgrade the client to 11.2 after Installation.
I believe that Oracle 11g RDBMS is valid for SAP Netweaver CE 7.2.
What is your platform i.e. OS?
Have you checked PAM for Netweaver CE 7.2?
Regards,
Akshay
Hi,
You will be upgrading only the oracle client because you have already installed oracle database 11g.
So just install oracle client 10.2 and later upgrade it to 11.2
Even if you have oracle client version 10.2 in your new server and oracle client 11.2 in BO dev server. It is not a problem. It will work.
Your client version is just dependent of that system not to the other systems.
I hope this helps.
Please check and provide your feedback.
Thanks and Regards,

Hi Akshay,
I have downloaded the media from software download--->Installation&upgrade--->My company applications--->SAP netweaver CE 7.2...>here shwoing database Oracle 10 only.
Can u please suggest me Oacle 11 is valid for sapnetweaver ce 7.2 or not.
One more thing actually in my system alaredy Oracle 11 is installed its BO prospective ,in this dump we dont have sapserver.cmd and while installing setup its not asking SID as well.
Please suggest.
Hi,
Please check the below link which shows that oracle 11G is supported/valid in your Netweaver CE7.2
Please navigate to database/install folder there you can see the sapserver.cmd file. Right click on it and start as administrator.. If you dont find it, you can click on setup.exe file and proceed.
In one step, it will prompt to enter the path to install the products . in the text box enter your oracle desired location like D:\oracle\SID\112_64
Once the installation is completed, please check the environmental variables.
Thanks and Regards,
Vimal
Hi,
From the info you have provided, it looks like you are using incorrect DVD of Oracle client applicable for your OS / Product version. Can you please provide more info ( like the RDBMS DVD details & error screen capture ) .

Hello ,
I think Netweaver CE 7.2 does not allows direct installation with Oracle 11. Check this thread it talks about the same issue.

Hi maria ,
I dont have the screen shot ,but this phase has been done after downloading Oracle client 10.2 and selected the label.asc.
But now th issues is i am selecting the installation master
ZIP | 51040444_10 | NW CE 7.2 Inst.Master WIN Server x64 64bit Oracle 10.2/11.2 |
I selected 10.2/11.2 ,why it is asking 10.2 cleint
For latest SAPINST's , you can either use oracle 10.2 or oracle 11.2 as your client.
It is recommended that if you are installing oracle 11g, you need to have atleast oracle client greater than 10.2.0.4....
Oracle client selection will be prompted with the option of 10.2 or 11.2 . Based on your oracle version and desired oracle client you can use either of one.
Another reason for having both oracle client version in the sap installation master is that suppose if you want to take export of the system which is using oracle client 10.2 .
Hope this helps.
