WWI and Expert Rules Servers upgrade to 2008 R2

Hi,

Our WWI and Expert Rules are running on Windows Server 2003, we are planning to upgrade to Windows Server 2008 R2 with 64 bit, wondering if it will be compatible and what's the requirements?

According to Note 1145085, WWI and Expert running on a 64bit system require the WoW64 subsystem, does 2008 R2 server contain WoW64 subsystem by default?

Can we run the 2008 R2 on Virtual Server instead of Physical?

Do we need to have SAP Gui installed on the servers in order for the WWI and Expert Rules to work? It is currently installed on the servers but wonder if we can remove it or part of the requirements?

Thanks,

David

David,

yes WWI and Expert are compatible to Windows Server 2008 (R2), please see note 1145085 accordingly.

It can be run as VM, see note 568302.

You do not need SAPGUI on the WWI or Expert server.

Regards,

Christian

Hi David,

WWI & Expert running on a 64bit system require the WoW64(windows 32 bit on windows 64 bit) subsystem. yes, and  WoW64 subsystem included on all the windows system.

WoW64 system:

WoW64 (Windows 32-bit on Windows 64-bit) is a subsystem of the Windows operating system capable of running 32-bit applications and is included on all 64-bit versions of Windows—including Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, IA-64 and x64 versions of Windows Server 2003, as well as 64-bit versions of Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 and Windows 8. In Windows Server 2008 R2 Server Core.

It is an optional component. WoW64 is designed to take care of many of the differences between 32-bit Windows and 64-bit Windows, particularly involving structural changes to Windows itself. This is included on all 64-bit versions of Windows.

Note 66971 - Supported SAP GUI platforms contains information on platforms supported by SAP GUI and visualization products for sap GUI  for windows

Currently there is no separate SAP GUI version for 64bit operating systems. However due to the limitations mentioned in SAP note 1442028 SAP is evaluating to create and ship a 64bit version of SAP GUI for Windows (x64). This note will be updated once a development plan and shipment schedule have been determined. Fact is that before 2014 no 64bit SAP GUI for Windows version will be available due to the huge effort associated with creating such a version.

Until a 64bit version is available you can use the standard SAP GUI for  Windows 32bit version on 64bit operating systems.
