Update from ODS data in Data Target

Former Member

After the data becomes available in the ods I want to update it to data targets. I had just carried out an initialization on the ODS. But data existed before this initialization also. Should I updata ODS data in delta mode, initial load or full load. Thesse are the options i get when i click on Update ODS data in data targets.

Thanks

Fran

Hi Fran,

"But data existed before this initialization also": Are you talking about that data existed in the ODS (source) or data exists in the data targets you want to update the ODS data to?

I think you should run an Init from ODS to the other data target. In the future you can then do delta loads.

Hope this helps...

Data existed both in this ODS as well as in furthar data targets. Should I still do a Init to other targets??

thanks

Hi Fran,

That's okay. So long as you have never loaded data from this ODS to those targets, doing an Init will be fine.

Actually, previously those targets have always gotten data from this ODS. This is part of the data flow for another ODS and then a Cube.

"those targets have always gotten data from this ODS.": So how have you been loading the targets fromthis ODS so far?

actually, i'm sorry. I thought they had data but they dont. so i'll just go ahead and do an Initial load. Should I do it immediate or later in background.

thanks for the help

The best thing to do would be to start it up as immediate in a backgroud job. Also to be safe choose the third option: PSA and Subsequently update to data targets.

Hope this helps...

In the InfoPackage > Scheduler > Init options for source system > check if there is already an Init request for this data source.

yeah there was one sitting and deleted it and processed the update with INIT.

In monitor, it is yellow so far and it shows (0 from 0 records). Is that ok? will that number increase as it gets processed?

thanks

You deleted the older Init request?? Are you in Development or Production? I hope there were no regular delta loads being carried out, else they will be messed up and so will the data. The monitor will show you numbers as soon as the records are processed.

I'm working in Q. I'm not sure about regular delta loads but as far as i know there should regular loads. But i also know that another senior BW guy deleted all the init requests from the first ODS also in order to do an INIT. So I THINK i should be fine.

thanks

Fran,

Make sure you dont have any old init load.Because you cannt have multiple init load. After deleting that init load and delta load(if any) go for fresh init load. Then there should not be any issue in load.
