Save text larger than 255 Chars

Hello,

i habe to save texts from a textedit-control (custom control) in sap tables. Unfortunately there's an restriction to 255 chars. How can I handle this? I remember there was a possibility to save only the reference to the text. Does anyone could help me or give me an example how to implement this ? Are there any methods?
